Registered Nurse (RN) – Correctional Facility
Schedule: Weekend Nights (Saturday & Sunday) | 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality nursing care within a secure correctional healthcare environment. This role is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing services to an adult patient population with a wide range of acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.
The facility is a 24/7 medium-security correctional institution that also operates a long-term care unit and palliative care program, caring for patients with significant medical needs. As part of the healthcare team, the RN serves as a care manager and patient advocate, ensuring continuity of care while responding to both emergent and ongoing medical situations.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
- Monitor patient conditions and communicate significant changes to the healthcare team.
- Coordinate care for patients requiring long-term, chronic disease management, and palliative care services.
- Serve as a patient care navigator, ensuring continuity of care across multiple disciplines.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical documentation.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, mental health professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Educate patients regarding medications, treatments, and health maintenance.
- Adhere to all correctional healthcare policies, nursing standards, infection control guidelines, and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic healthcare environment.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred if applicable).
- Previous correctional, emergency, medical-surgical, long-term care, or critical care experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions in emergency situations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
