Schedule:  Monday through Friday, Rotating AM/PM shifts between 6:00 AM and 10:30 PM, Self-scheduling model, Occasional weekends and holidays required

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join a multidisciplinary healthcare team providing high-quality care in a medium-security correctional healthcare setting. This role serves a diverse patient population with complex and chronic medical conditions, requiring strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to respond effectively to both emergent and ongoing healthcare needs.

The facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is unique in providing medium-custody correctional care while also housing a long-term care unit and a palliative care program. As a result, nurses care for patients with significant medical needs and play a vital role in ensuring continuity of care, patient safety, and positive health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.

  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate patient health status, implementing appropriate nursing interventions.

  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.

  • Coordinate and manage patient care across multiple disciplines to ensure seamless delivery of services.

  • Serve as a patient advocate, care manager, and care navigator, helping patients access appropriate healthcare services throughout their treatment.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.

  • Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.

  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care.

  • Educate patients and healthcare staff on medical conditions, treatment plans, and preventative health practices.

  • Maintain compliance with all clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Minimum of two years of recent nursing experience preferred.

  • Experience in correctional healthcare, long-term care, medical-surgical, emergency, or critical care is highly desirable.

  • Strong assessment, clinical decision-making, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation.
