Are you a technically strong Architectural Design Technician who enjoys turning concepts into buildable, well-detailed drawings? This is a chance to join a growing design-build team where your work directly supports construction success and attention to detail matters. Our client is an established Canadian design-builder delivering food processing facilities, cold storage, distribution centres and institutional projects across the country. They offer end-to-end construction delivery tailored to each client's needs. Their strength in project engineering and construction management lets them deliver projects of all sizes, from industrial tenant improvements and renovations to full-scale greenfield builds. This role can be based in either Edmonton or Vancouver. It is an in-office position, with regular site visits as part of the work.
What you will be doing:
Design and Documentation

Collect and organize technical building information.

Help develop architectural design, contract, bidding and permit documents.

Prepare and submit applications to regulatory authorities for approval.

Prepare designs using CAD and traditional drafting methods.

Complete conceptual design work in AutoCAD, Revit and similar software.

Prepare specifications, material take-offs and cost estimates from conceptual drawings and instructions.

Reference provincial and national building codes to support drawings and specifications.

Develop architectural models, including physical models and 3D virtual models.

Provide technical input on factors affecting building development, such as user needs, site conditions, surveys and regulatory requirements.

Review designs for health and safety considerations and contribute to risk assessments.
Coordination and Site Work

Coordinate with sub-consultants in architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, sprinkler and other specialty disciplines.

Visit sites to inspect work for compliance with design intent, regulations and codes. Confirm existing site dimensions and review work completed by others.

Attend meetings with new and existing clients to provide drawing progress updates and technical input.

Participate in trade meetings as the design liaison.

Coordinate with municipalities and regulatory boards as needed.
Project Administration

Review and approve sub-consultant invoices.

Review, track and manage shop drawings from the construction team.

Coordinate internal and external requests for detailed design information.

Prepare and maintain tracking logs for shop drawings, site instructions and addenda.

Maintain consultant contact lists.
Team and Growth

Collaborate and share knowledge with the drafting team.

Stay current on new design processes, building legislation and emerging technologies.
What you must have:

A two to three-year post-secondary diploma in Architectural Technology or a related field.

Certification in Architectural Technology or a related discipline through a provincial association of technologists and technicians.

2 to 5 years of related experience in the construction industry.

At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Revit, plus AutoCAD or similar design software.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.

A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.
Salary/Rate Range: $62,400.00 - $72,800.00
