Our client, located in Burnaby specializes in battery storage systems, advanced charger/rectifier technologies, and fully integrated rack solutions, ensuring uninterrupted power for mission-critical operations. For over 30 years, our client has been delivering field-proven power solutions to industries around the globe. Their expertise extends to energy storage, providing customized solutions that enhance backup power, grid resilience, and off-grid capabilities.

Target Market: Industrial Utilities, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Transport, ICT (information and communications technology), Telecom, Data Centers and renewables.

Team & Company Culture: Team is growing (just under 10 ppl now) and they are building a great culture-fun place to work, looking for candidates that are excited to grow and develop from the ground up. They are working with some big clients and enjoy working hard and having fun while doing it.

Remuneration: $30-34/hour + 4% vacation pay to start Part-Time on contract 15-20 hours/week during the initial minimum 2-3 month contract. Once the candidate is hired on permanently, the hours will increase to full time and the salary range will be $60-70K+/annually.
Some flexibility with hours/days for the part time contract but must be within 9am-5pm working hours, ONSITE in Burnaby

Job Description:
The Electrical Project Engineer designs, engineers, and estimates critical power construction projects.
Performs designing/engineering work to estimate a cost of a critical power system as per a given specification, including applying research, development, and design to improve the product; also provides technical support of released product. The engineer executes designs for large, complex projects by clarifying scope with clients, coordinating with engineering and architectural resources, engaging technical experts, and working with vendors to meet specifications.
Responsibilities include: system reliability calculations, control and monitoring power system design, guiding sales and estimating teams, supporting solution presentations, and managing customer’s engineering team relationships. During construction, the engineer assists Project Managers and installation teams to meet schedules, budgets, and safety standards as the lead technical consultant for engineering design, manufacture, and performance issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Be able to calculate and design a AC/DC critical power back up system as per load profile given.
• Execute engineering design and estimate a cost of a critical power system product as per given specification.
• Be able to provide a CAD electrical drawing of the designed product & a bill of materials (BOM) for critical components of the product. And provide a direction to a mechanical drafting designer to complete housing of the product to allow it functioning as a design expected.
• Interface with customer’s engineering team to clarify and advise any unclear/conflict or overlapping technical requirement indicated in the customer specifications. With technical expertise, advise the customer’s engineering team to improve their specifications
• Have knowledge of client-specific standards as well as industry standards, such as CSA/UL/IEEE/IEC/NEMA/NEC/ANSI/IBC/UBC applicable for AC/DC power products.
• Be able to work with CSA/UL/TUV inspectors to evaluate company products as per applicable technical regulatory standards listed above
• As the lead technical consultant, coach team members, such as estimators, project managers, sales, and technical supports/services in technical matters.
• Work closely with internal/external customers to determine requirements and make cost-effective and innovative recommendations.
• Generate, read, interpret, and explain RFQ’s, SOW’s, drawings (Space & Single-Line) to guide the creation of solutions, estimates, and other documents within a timely manner, while adhering to company guidelines (e.g. legal review process and required margin calculations).
• Support the Sales team in the identification and qualification of new market opportunities.
• Communicate effectively with customers, technicians, and project coordinators to execute projects successfully.
• Create overall strategies and plans to execute projects.
• Manage change control and implement approved changes.
• Assist in the delivery of complete and accurate close-out documentation to clients in a timely manner.
• Prepare and review with team any post-mortems required.
• Review financials with Sales and Operations management.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Constant and consistent communication among all project team members
• Be able to do technical writing to provide a product’s specification/data sheet, operating manual, and testing & maintaining procedures
• Work with sales team to actively participate in providing technical training on the product.
• Drive continuous improvement based on feedback from the internal teams, field services and customer’s QA to improve processes and quality of the product.
• Identify opportunities for process and quality improvements, act when possible and involve management team when additional support is needed.
• Ensure co practices for safety and general best practices for safety are always followed.
• Ability to work independently and with the team to meet goals and directives.
• Other duties as assigned by Executive Management Team

Qualifications
• BS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university with 5-year experience in electrical AC/DC distribution power products.
• Experience in critical power environments including DC power, including electro-chemical power sources such as stationary batteries, and protected AC power systems.
• Understanding of cooling systems, control systems, AC switch gear, automation systems, PLC devices, and electrical power generator systems.
• Experience in project management and operations culture.
• Understanding of financial budgets and engineering economic calculations.
• Ability to create, document, and present clearly design concepts to customers and operations.
• Experience working with mechanical engineers and professional civil engineers.
• Familiarity with construction techniques and able to apply them to design solutions.
• Having technical writing skills.
• Excellent computer skills (specifically MS Excel/word, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, Team, Outlook)
• Experience in technical drawings programs (AutoCAD, Visio) required.
• Knowledge of circuit simulation software.
• Knowledge of Bill Of Material structure.
• General knowledge of metal & non metal materials’ characteristics.
• Ability and confidence to manage multiple projects and make critical decisions on a day-to-day basis

Work Environment

• Office: 8 Hr working time per day.
• Availability to answer urgent emails, calls and correspondence during working hours in a prompt manner
• Field/Outdoors: Provide field services/commissioning/product training. Up to 5 days per week if required. Also provide technical interfacing/type test witness at third party labs such as KEMA/TUV/Seismic test labs
• Travel (periodic as most meetings can be done virtually/couple trips a year is the expectation) with a sales team to provide a product technical presentation to current and potential customers if required.
