Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the Director of Programs will provide leadership and direction for all client service areas of the organization in alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities. The Director of Programs position touches all aspects of the  organization’s operations, with a particular focus on and responsibility for program development and planning, effective delivery and quality control, community relations, and personnel with a commitment to building an inclusive, collaborative, respectful workplace culture. The position works in consultation with the organization's leadership team to identify needs, address areas of improvement and ensure compliance with executed grant agreements with funders.


What you will be doing:
Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership, strategy and direction to all programmatic areas

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, learning and trust

  • Recognize and nurture the leadership potential in others

  • Effectively lead a team of Department Managers operating in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities

  • Empower team with a shared vision that integrates a variety of perspectives

  • Lead change processes to create collective impact both within the organization and in collaboration with community stakeholders

  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Leadership Team in a collaborative manner to promote integration and best practices in service delivery, innovation and the creation of a positive agency culture

  • Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment

  • Identify, develop and effectively implement opportunities for innovation and impact

Operations and People Management

  • Ensure organizational structure continues to meet program delivery requirements of the organization and evolve and adjust as needed

  • Advise the Leadership Team of program risks, needs and opportunities which may impact the organization


Job description

  • Develop and implement an operating plan for all program areas that is consistent and aligned with the organization’s strategic plan

  • Ensure programming meets the needs and expectations of clients locally and more broadly outside of Calgary

  • Support the creation and implementation of program logic models, theories of change and evaluative processes necessary to demonstrate outcomes

  • Work closely with the Director of Data, Evaluation, Reporting and Compliance on business solutions for programs, data collection and impact reporting

  • Engage in quality assurance, continuous improvement and redesign of programs as needed

  • Work closely with the Director People & Culture to oversee the implementation of

Human Resources policies, procedures and practices

  • Ensure all client services meet the requirements of appropriate legislation, codes of ethics and accreditation standards

  • Recruit and retain leadership staff

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement

  • Coach and mentor senior management staff, and implement progressive development plans and processes as appropriate to enhance growth and performance

Program Oversight and Community Engagement

  • Engage closely with the Director of Communications & Stakeholder Relations and other community partners to create awareness of the organization's program and services, share specialized knowledge in a manner reflective of agency values, and monitor needs of clients

  • Actively participate in creating a culture of philanthropy at the company

  • Form strategic partnerships and alliances with other service organizations, community groups, funders, and others to help advance organization’s shared goals

  • Act as a key spokesperson for the agency with community partners and other stakeholders

  • Provide the COO with timely, thorough, and relevant materials to report on all program activities

  • Represent the organization at community events to enhance the agency’s profile

Financial Management

  • Implement program budgets in collaboration with Chief Financial Officer

  • Approve fund allocation within Program Departments

  • Monitor budget and adjust where necessary to meet program and financial objectives

  • Participate with other leaders to ensure the overall financial health of the organization

  • Provide the COO with timely, thorough, and relevant materials to report on the revenues, expenditures and risks in regards to programming



What you must have:

  • Advanced skills in business applications (Microsoft Word, Teams, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Experience with data base management systems is required

  • Experience with Client Management data bases is a definite asset

  • Experience with all aspects of social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter

  • Skills using virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams) is expected

  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize email and calendar

  • A minimum of ten years of progressive management and leadership experience in a non-profit setting with extensive supervisory responsibilities

  • A Master’s degree in a related discipline is required, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Experience and understanding of the social services sector in Calgary

  • Work related experience with immigrants, sensitivity and knowledge of immigrant women and cross-cultural issues

  • Knowledge and experience in program management, communications, marketing, outreach and fund development

  • Knowledge and experience in the creation and development of assessment/ data collection tools and logic models

  • Financial literacy and business acumen, including preparing and managing budgets

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills including strong writing skills

  • Experience dealing with settlement and integration, language training,

  • employment and family services barriers faced by new immigrants

  • Sound understanding of financial/budget management

  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making

  • Proven ability to write complex reports and proposals

  • Strong research skills

  • Appreciation and knowledge of cultural diversity

  • Second language is an asset
