Overview:
The Specialist QA is responsible for conducting quality audits within the VSY internal processes (production process, supporting process) and suppliers. This role focuses on evaluating and improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance of the VSY processes and supporting audit-ready state for annual ISO assessments. The Specialist provides auditor expertise and guidance to VSY functional teams on meeting ISO 9001:2015 requirements. This role will also be responsible for assisting with VSY QA Core processes which include managing audit findings and NCRs, management of change, and continuous improvement. This role will assist in developing functional processes and supporting documentation and also assist in reviewing and approving supplier quality documents. This role will report to the QA Supervisor.

 


What you will be doing:

  • Evaluate processes’ risks via auditing and contribute to the creation of the annual internal audit plan.

  • Perform regular and systematic audits according to the audit schedule.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, quality management systems (QMS), and regulatory requirements through identification of non-conformances, deviations, and areas of non-compliance.

  • Collaborates with shipyard personnel to address and resolve non-conformities or non-compliances by facilitating root cause analysis and action plan identification

  • Prepare audit reports summarizing findings, observations, and recommendations.

  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions and improvements.

  • Conduct follow-up audits to ensure that corrective actions have been effectively implemented.

  • Work closely with production teams, suppliers, and other departments to understand processes and identify areas for improvement.

  • Provide guidance and support to production staff and suppliers on quality standards and best practices.

  • Foster a collaborative approach to quality assurance and problem-solving.

  • Pro-actively look for opportunities to improve Production Quality and overall operational effectiveness through the application of quality tools, like Gemba walks.

  • Coordinate the quality awareness training for Production personnel and ensures that training is conducted in a frequent and informative manner.

  • Assist in maintaining the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements and in a manner consistent with the Seaspan Shipyards Quality Management System Manual, communicating the requirements and procedures to all employees.

  • Promote the collection, analysis, and use of internal quality data and metrics to improve quality outcomes of production processes.

  • As directed, provide coordinating support for Shipyards core processes.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

What you must have: 

  • Production experience in shipyard repair and/or new construction environment is an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing environments and process improvement.

  • Technical degree.

  • Certified Quality Auditor – obtained ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certification

  • Experience auditing internal processes, suppliers, and management systems based on ISO 

  • Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 9001-2015

  • Technical writing and communication skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and work environments.

  • Ability to collaborate with teams and focus people’s energy and attention on bringing various priorities together to achieve set goals and objectives.

  • Technical knowledge and analytical skills

  • Professional presentation, organizational, influencing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Salary/Rate Range: $41.00 - $52.00 per hour
