Overview:
The Environmental Department Manager is a key role responsible for managing the technical, operational, and financial aspects of the environmental practice line for Florida Operations. This position oversees and directs environmental professionals responsible for drilling, sample/data collection, subcontractor tasks, evaluates data, and compiles written reports for submittal to clients and regulatory agencies. What you will be doing:

  • Lead and manage the Environmental Department, including hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating team members.

  • Develop and implement departmental goals, strategies, and policies to meet environmental objectives and organizational priorities.

  • Oversee the performance of the department to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, policies, and best practices.

  • Foster a culture of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and safety across the organization.

  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

  • Ensure that all environmental permits are obtained and maintained in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (such as FDEP, EPA, USACE, and DERM).

  • Monitor and assess the organization’s compliance with environmental laws, guidelines, and industry standards.

  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and act as the organization’s representative during inspections, audits, and other regulatory processes.

  • Develop and implement strategies for reducing environmental risks and ensuring operational compliance.

  • Develop and implement sustainability programs and initiatives to reduce environmental impacts (e.g., waste management, energy conservation, water use reduction).

  • Lead initiatives aimed at achieving environmental certifications (e.g., ISO 14001) and other sustainability standards.

  • Create, update, and enforce environmental policies related to waste disposal, resource conservation, and pollution prevention.

  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate environmental considerations into business practices, product development, and project planning.

  • Oversee and review environmental assessments, reports, and studies related to air quality, water quality, land contamination, and other environmental impacts.

  • Ensure that environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and site assessments are completed for new projects and facilities.

  • Provide clear and actionable recommendations to leadership based on environmental findings.

  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate documentation of compliance and performance.

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on environmental policies, sustainability practices, and compliance requirements.

  • Foster continuous learning within the department and organization about emerging environmental issues and trends

  • Ensure all team members are kept up to date with the latest environmental laws, industry best practices, and technologies.

  • Other duties may be assigned.


What you must have:

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related science field

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer-in-Training (EI), Professional Geologist (PG), certification required

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ related experience

  • Experience in client management, sales, marketing, and proposal development

  • Proficiency in soil, groundwater, sediment, & air sampling procedures

  • Knowledge of FDEP and DERM, regulations, technical guidance documents, and SOPs

  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.


Nice to have:

  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in an environmental role

  • Experience working in regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws (e.g., EPA, OSHA, DOT)

  • Experience with environmental management software, GIS systems, and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing.

  • Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly is expected, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion.

  • This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions.

  • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.

  • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.
