Overview: 
The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer is accountable for the reliable operations and effective maintenance of equipment and systems for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

 

What you will be doing:

  • This position will support the development of the asset maintenance, operations and management strategies for the implementation of new assets at several facilities located in remote communities primarily in Northern and North Coastal British Columbia. The following pertains to assets owned by NIA Planning which for the time being include the following major equipment:
    • Batteries/Containers
    • Battery Energy Management System
    • Power Conversion System (i.e. Inverters)
    • MGC/DER Controllers
    • 600-25kV Transformers

  • Ensure reliable operations and effective maintenance of equipment and systems by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including predictive and condition-based maintenance and root cause analysis of equipment failures on medium complexity systems. 

  • In addition to the core work, assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks. 

  • Resolve highly technical and unusual reliability and maintenance problems by analyzing data, collaborating with others, accessing documentation, to determine priorities, establish a course of action and follow through on tasks to resolve the issue. 

  • Participate in the company’s engineering practice by conducting independent analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, and making decisions related to equipment or system reliability and maintenance as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability at the company. 

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by communicating with internal and external stakeholders and briefing senior management on complex project issues in a clear and concise manner to support completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget and on time. 

 

Other Information:

  • Prior to commencement on assignment, the selected candidate must have their own sole practitioner, or the use of their firm’s, Permit to Practice with EGBC.’

  • EGBC Registrants provided to the company through this assignment shall work under the company’s Professional Practice Management Plan, Quality Management Pillar. The Registrant shall apply their own or their firm’s Permit to Practice Number to work that is Sealed by the Registrant. Retention and preservation of all project documentation produced by the Registrant during their contract with the company will be retained by the company to satisfy EGBC Bylaws.

 

What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, civil, or equivalent 

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC 

  • The company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius 

  • Expert working knowledge and extensive experience in the following areas: 

    • Reliability concepts, principles and methods 

    • Reliability tools and their application to understand system performance (reliability and availability) and major contributors to system uptime 

    • Tools including Failure Modes/Effect Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Center Maintenance (RCM), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) 

    • Operation, maintenance, and failures of equipment and systems in the power utility industry, oil and gas industry, or heavy industrial environment 

    • Reading and understanding drawings and manuals to articulate how a system works and how the system can fail and what needs to be done to prevent failures either from a design or an effective maintenance standpoint 

    • Various types of predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies and their application 

    • Taking equipment apart and reassembling it 

  • Demonstrated ability to use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as a method of problem solving to identify root causes of faults or problems 

  • Intermediate knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) 

  • Ability to multi-task when given multiple competing assignments 

  • Good decision making and conflict resolution skills 

  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) 

  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

 

 Salary/Rate Range: $77.00 - $95.00 per hour


Term: 8 month contract; most likely to extend
