Our client is a leading General Contractor located in beautiful Nelson, British Columbia. We are looking for an Estimator to join their team and support their rapidly growing business. As a valued member of the team you would contribute to their 17 years of success as a full-
service General Contracting, Construction Management and Design-Build services specializing in residential and commercial construction.

Projects:

  • Multiple delivery models - bid-build, design-build, construction management, cost plus.

  • Residential, institutional, commercial, and light industrial projects.

  • Affordable housing developments.

  • Government and BC Housing projects.

  • Private client builds for multi-million-dollar homes and ski lodges.



What you will be doing:
Projects

  • You will take the lead during the Pre-Construction Phase for your assigned project - including RFP’s, building all classes of estimates following the project’s design development and submitting successful tender submissions.

  • Review and understand all project documents including drawings, schedules and specifications. Provide concise and high-quality value engineering to the project team during all estimate phases. Adept at identifying and communicating project inconsistencies.

  • Using industry leading pre-construction software DETINI Estimator you will complete highly detailed take offs for all elements of work, including sub-contracted scopes. Able to compile take-offs for self-performed work. Strong knowledge of carpentry labour and typical equipment productivities is beneficial.

  • Solicit sub-contractors and suppliers for quotations. Review quotes for completeness. Develop long-term relationships with existing sub-contractors and suppliers. Actively seek out new long-term relationships.

  • Prepare preliminary construction schedules using MS Project.

  • Lead and participate in all aspects of project meetings. Perform typical administrative duties associated with leading project meetings. Attend site meetings as required.

  • Assist project team with change orders.

Internal

  • Participate in a culture of constant improvement by formulating new and enhance existing workflows. Develop and improve internal worksheets and estimate templates.

  • Analyze existing and introduce new strategies, advantages, or innovations to produce a timely competitive bid.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, sub-contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Maintain database of vendors and historical cost data.


What you must have:

  • Minimum 5 years of successful experience in estimating, specifically in residential and commercial construction. Ideally for general contracting companies.

  • Post Secondary degree, diploma or certification in construction estimating, quantity surveying or engineering. Construction related discipline or equivalent years of experience.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of project tendering and construction processes.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of residential and commercial construction industry and practices.

  • A thorough knowledge of the construction market, trades, materials, and sub contractors.

  • Software experience beneficial: Bluebeam, Destini Estimator (or other estimating software), Excel, MS Project/Primavera P6, and/or Spectrum experience desirable.
