What you will be doing:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental standards and procedures

  • Drive the company's Bold Safety Leadership culture, ensuring that safety is a core value and that everyone returns home safely every day.

  • Interpret and align project-specific Health and Safety objectives with the company's business strategies, policies, and standards.

  • Actively contribute to enterprise-wide Health and Safety initiatives, promoting strategic alignment across all Teck assets

  • Integrate Health and Safety principles throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and engineering to procurement, construction, and commissioning.

  • Serve as a key member of the Project Leadership Team, collaborating with functional leaders and advising senior management on Health and Safety risks, trends, and mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor contractors' OSH performance, ensuring that expectations are integrated into contracts and monitored during execution.

  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, identify trends, and support corrective actions to meet performance objectives.

  • Lead the response and investigation of critical incidents, ensuring alignment with business protocols and effective follow-up.

  • Conduct audits and inspections, ensuring the implementation of corrective actions and the sharing of lessons learned across all projects.

  • Provide timely and accurate OSH reports to senior management, including dashboards and performance summaries

Ensure a strong integration of the company's Health and Safety policy within the Projects group through: 

  • Support for management alignment and visible leadership in safety.

  • Tools for high-level risk assessments, especially for risks of serious injury, illness, or death.

  • Empowering teams to make bold decisions to stop or postpone unsafe work.

 
What you must have:

  • Degree in Health, Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.

  • Over 15 years of experience in construction safety, including over 10 years on construction projects with increasing responsibility and leadership. Experience working on owner teams and with EPCM contractors to develop integrated health and safety programs.

  • Proven leadership in enterprise-level health and safety initiatives across diverse geographic and cultural contexts.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety management systems, risk assessment, critical controls, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficiency in Spanish and experience in Canada, the U.S., Chile, Peru, and Mexico are valuable assets.

  • Availability to travel and work up to 40% of the time, even at high-altitude operating sites.

Experience in: 

  • Design and implementation of occupational health and hygiene programs.

  • Audits and peer reviews targeting high-risk activities.

  • Incident analysis using recognized methods (e.g., ICAM).

  • Development of health and safety performance indicators.

  • Communicate best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.

  • Support for management alignment and visible leadership in safety. 

  • Tools for high-level risk assessments, especially for risks of serious injury, illness, or death.

  • Empowering teams to make bold decisions to stop or postpone unsafe work.  


Salary/Rate Range: $210,000 - $217,000
