Overview:
The E4 – Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.
What you will be doing:

This role requires background and experience related to generator protection, control and associated systems, including practical and theoretical knowledge in protective relays, programmable logic controllers, excitation system, governor systems, and fault analysis / investigation.

The work is focused on the technical support of protection and control systems related to generating units and associated auxiliary equipment.

Provide support for Communications, Protection and Control (CPC) field technologists and perform field reviews for P&C equipment installations and modifications. Accept and seal commissioning documentation. Author and review P&C commissioning standards.

Provide technical support services for the protection, control, and instrumentation systems, excitation systems, governor systems, in plant communication systems and instrumentation equipment for company hydroelectric generating stations.

Provide site assistance for commissioning, maintenance overhauls and failure investigations.

Participate in the field testing and inspection of equipment as requested.

Develop maintenance procedures and standards.

Advise Operations and Asset Management on equipment health and risks of continued operation.

Analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence.

Manage medium sized projects and work packages, writing specifications and standards, estimating capital costs, leading and mentoring technical staff, and providing technical and site support during the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment.

Provide technical leadership, coordinate projects of some complexity and plan resources, and develop innovative methods of design for complex P&C problems.

Provide independent review of work prepared by project team members to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and adherence to accepted engineering practice.

Develop and provide training on the theory and operational use of the equipment/systems.

Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).

Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.

Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company Design Practices.

Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.

Provide preliminary and detailed design packages for telecom projects involving microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fiber optic networks, C band/Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks.

Specify and procure materials, coordinate panel assemblies and staging, and testing of equipment panels prior to shipping for installation.

Prepare construction requirements documents and circuit cutover plans.

Prepare technical specifications, test plans and commissioning documents for the installation of telecommunication infrastructure.

Prepare and issue channel authorizations, design configurations and settings.

Provide technical guidance and support throughout the design process (cross-discipline integration, factory testing, installation, commissioning, and operations).

Provide training for end-users and peers on the theory and operational use of the installed or modified equipment/systems.
What you must have:
-
Knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices, experience working in a field environment, and experience in fault analysis and investigations is required.

Knowledge and familiarity with NERC PRC and MOD Standards (PRC-019, MOD-025/026/027) and experience working with ABB excitation systems is an asset.

Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, and strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC

Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards

Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software

Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Salary/Rate Range: $87.00 -$105.00
Term: 12-month contract; most likely to extend
