Overview:
Our client is seeking an Experienced Estimator with 3–10 years of experience in commercial construction. The primary focus of this role is to provide accurate estimating and subcontractor costing from the concept stage through to contract letting and planning. Working collaboratively, the Estimator will help deliver winning bids by building strong relationships with a broad network of professional colleagues, subcontractors, and internal team members.


What you will be doing:
Analysis of Designs and Estimating Costs

  • Coordinate the preparation of full estimates ranging from $50M to $100M in value, identifying risks and opportunities.

  • Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates from schematic or feasibility-level documentation.

  • Read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications to perform accurate quantity take-offs.

  • Participate in project planning, including defining and clarifying scope.

  • Contribute to pre-construction planning, including the development of preliminary budgets and cost plans.

  • Determine general conditions components of proposals and prepare project schedules.

  • Maintain current and historical construction cost data.

  • Support a variety of projects, including building envelope, new construction, and renovations.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Tendering and Subcontractor Interaction

  • Oversee the tendering process with qualified subcontractors.

  • Prepare detailed bid instructions, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.

  • Analyze subcontractor requirements and provide guidance as needed.

Communications and Business Development

  • Maintain active communication with tendering authorities, owners, architects, and technical consultants.

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with subcontractors to stay informed on market costing trends.

  • Contribute to business development efforts with new and existing clients.

  • Prepare and present cost/budget information to customers and owners.

  • Participate in client presentations.

Decisions and Authority

  • Manage estimating responsibilities for projects up to $100M in value, with oversight and review by senior management.

  • Fully responsible for estimate development within assigned scope and value.


What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technology Diploma in Construction or Engineering.

  • P.Eng. or CET designation preferred.

  • Quantity Surveyor or Red Seal Estimator certification is an asset.

  • 3–10 years of commercial construction estimating experience in Canada.

  • Proven experience in estimating commercial and institutional projects.

  • Strong understanding of estimating techniques, tendering, and contract negotiation.

  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients.

  • Expert knowledge of unit costs and cost drivers in construction.

  • Proven track record preparing fixed-price tenders and budgets for projects up to $100M.

  • Familiarity with applicable building codes, materials, and estimating procedures.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with the capacity to perform under pressure.

  • Effective team player with leadership potential.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel-based estimating tools, project management, and scheduling software (MS Project).

  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving ability.
