Overview:
The E2 – Engineer performs supervised engineering tasks for assignments of limited scope and complexity using standard procedures and techniques to support projects and/or operations at the company safely, with quality, within budget, and on time. The P&C Engineering SCADA Design Team provides engineering expertise and support to high voltage transmission substations, generating stations and distribution facilities. Our team also provides project management, design, maintenance and emergency response services to the company and selected external clients. The successful candidate will be part of the SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) design team delivering complex, multi-discipline capital projects for the company.
What you will be doing:

This role requires experience with the design, configuration, testing and troubleshooting of SCADA systems in electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV. Demonstrated experience working with utility SCADA systems design, including the design, configuration, testing, and maintenance of GE RTU products (i.e. GE D400, D20, D200, D25, IBOX), Ethernet networks, DNP3 protocol, Modbus Plus® protocol, and protocol test equipment and software and other similar systems used in electrical utility substations.

The work is focused on SCADA systems used in transmission stations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV.

Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).

Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.

Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company Design Practices.

Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.

Prepare detailed SCADA design packages, device point assignments, and configurations.

Configuring/program RTUs, gateway devices, user interfaces, network switches/routers, and other IEDs related to the SCADA systems.

Specify and procure materials, panel assemblies and other related equipment.

Test and validate device configurations in a lab environment.
Prepare and execute pre-commissioning test plans for SCADA systems. -
Provide technical guidance and support throughout the design process (cross-discipline integration, factory testing, installation, commissioning).

Provide training for end-users and peers on the theory and operational use of the installed or modified equipment/systems.

Duties will primarily be focused on delivering capital work involving integration of remote monitoring and control equipment of the power system. Providing design, development and testing of equipment used in substations, generating stations and the distribution system

Undertakes a variety of engineering assignments and is responsible for a project or part of a project. providing instructions, advice, and technical leadership, including reviewing work and ensuring compliance with standards and procedures; interacting with external service providers and reviewing designs for compliance with the company standards & practices

Uses initiative and judgment to develop innovative engineering techniques and applies theoretical and practical knowledge in the analysis and resolution of problems. Discusses unusual problems with senior engineers or the supervisor.

Maintain strong constructive relationships with internal and external clients and across the organization also including external service providers, contractors and suppliers as required.

Works under general supervision, with work assigned in terms of specific objectives.

Reviews overall plans and provides guidance for unusual features.

Completed work is normally accepted as technically accurate and is reviewed for feasibility and soundness of judgment.

Checks work and provides guidance to assigned staff.
What you must have:

University graduate in applied science or engineering
-
Registered Engineer-in-Training or Geoscientist-in-Training with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or another jurisdiction and/or eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC

Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards

Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software

Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
Salary/Rate Range: $44.00 -$55.00 per hour
Term: 12-month contract; most likely to extend
