Overview:
Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit affordable housing developer based in Northern California, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join their Real Estate Development team. This organization is dedicated to developing and preserving high-quality, service-enriched housing for low-income seniors and other vulnerable populations.The Senior Project Manager plays a key leadership role in advancing the organization’s mission and oversees all phases of the development process — from site acquisition and entitlements through financing, construction, and lease-up. This position requires initiative, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


What you will be doing:

  • Manage multiple affordable housing development projects from concept through completion, including acquisition, entitlements, financing, construction, and lease-up.

  • Research and secure viable funding sources to support feasibility, pre-development, construction, and permanent loan phases.

  • Prepare and submit complete funding applications, including reports, budgets, narratives, and supporting documentation.

  • Lead negotiations with lenders, investors, and grantors, coordinating with internal departments for reviews and approvals.

  • Secure entitlements and approvals by coordinating with planning staff and city officials; represent projects before public agencies, Planning Commissions, and community groups.

  • Oversee design development and manage consultants, contractors, and project teams to maintain quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, proformas, and cash flow projections; implement value engineering and cost control measures.

  • Coordinate project close-out, including transition to property operations, investor reporting, and warranty management.

  • Supervise a Project Manager and Project Coordinator, providing mentorship and guidance to support their professional development.

  • Participate in industry and advocacy efforts aligned with the organization’s mission.



What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Urban Planning, Real Estate Development, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in affordable housing development, real estate finance, or community development.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects through all phases of the development process.

  • Strong understanding of LIHTC, HUD, and local/state funding programs

  • Experience preparing funding applications, managing proformas, and negotiating with lenders and investors.

  • Skilled in public engagement and presenting to city councils, planning commissions, and community stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.

  • Passion for housing equity and serving communities with limited income.


Salary/Rate Range: $110,000–$125,000/year
