Overview:
The Desktop Support Technician provides comprehensive technical support to computer users across the state of Oregon. This role involves handling requests via telephone, remote technology, and on-site assistance. Responsibilities include logging requests into the computerized tracking system, diagnosing computer-related problems, and communicating with affected parties regarding request statuses.


What you will be doing:

  • Investigate and diagnose computer-related issues reported by division staff throughout the state.

  • Assist users with complex problems that may require escalated support from lower-level Information Services (IS) staff.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues, including remote desktop control and coordination with software and hardware vendors as necessary.

  • Analyze system performance, interpret error codes, and resolve conflicts or issues effectively.

  • Install and configure hardware and software according to established procedures; perform intermediate level testing and troubleshooting.

  • Conduct regular performance analysis on PCs; implement measures to restore systems to acceptable performance levels as needed, such as running disk utilities or providing user instructions.

  • Liaise with hardware/software vendors for product information and enhancements to ensure optimal utilization of resources.

  • Write installation documentation and maintain a knowledge library for reference and ongoing training.

  • Monitor advancements in technology for potential departmental improvements; conduct testing on new installations lacking established procedures.


What you must have:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years supporting desktops in an enterprise environment.

  • Skills:

     

  • Networking: Basic knowledge of TCP/IP and UDP protocols (1-3 years).

  • Operating Systems: Familiarity with Windows 9x/2000/XP/NT/Vista/7 (1-3 years).

  • Active Directory: Basic knowledge (1-3 years).

  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written (4-6 years).

  • Learning ability and teamwork (4-6 years).

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (1-3 years).
