About the Role:
The City of Toronto is expanding its AWS based Enterprise Data Platform and is seeking a Senior Systems Integrator with a strong software engineering background and practical experience working in cloud environments. Successful candidates for this position will have experience as cloud software developer with specific focus in AWS application development. This role is focused on designing and developing solutions and services within AWS, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards. While not a dedicated DevOps role, the successful candidate must understand CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and modern deployment practices to support reliable delivery across environments.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and implement cloud-native applications and solutions using AWS services.
  • Develop and maintain software development patterns that align with enterprise architecture and security standards
  • Support deployment processes across development, testing, and production environments using CI/CD practices
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations using Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Troubleshoot issues across applications, integrations, cloud services, and enterprise systems
  • Collaborate with data engineers, integration teams, platform teams, and architects to ensure seamless delivery and operation
  • Ensure performance, reliability, and security requirements are met in application and solutions
  • Contribute to monitoring, logging, and operational support of cloud solutions
  • Identify risks and recommend improvements to enhance scalability and maintainability
  • Document solution designs, deployment processes, and operational procedures
What do you bring to the role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering or development within enterprise environments
  • Considerable experience building cloud-native applications that run on AWS
  • Experience in AWS with Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, S3, IAM usage (roles and policies) in developing cloud-native solutions
  • Experience in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript, for building production-grade applications using standard software engineering practices (version control, testing, code review)
  • Experience supporting Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and AWS CDK using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation and working with Git based workflows
  • Solid understanding of DevOps concepts including CI/CD and automation practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
  • Experience with AWS DataZone, supporting data & analytics platforms, exposure to AWS Sagemaker or AI related services, and familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g, Docker or Kubernetes) is an asset.
  • Experience working in public sector or large enterprise environments is an asset.
