What you will be doing:

  • Develops and submits departmental goals and objectives that are aligned with the Nursing and hospital strategic plans as required by the Division Administrator.

  • Conducts Interviews, hires, evaluates, counsels and terminates employees as per hospital policy.

  • Schedules staff based on budgeted staffing plan and department needs.

  • Updates FTE component of staffing budgets on a continuous basis

  • Develops and submits operating and capital budgets and reports variances as required to the Division Administrator.

  • Assures compliance with governmental, state regulations and accreditation standards.

  • Assures completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency and education requirements.

  • Provides house supervision as required by the Division of Nursing.

  • Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain current level of knowledge or expertise to manage department.

  • Periodically provides direct patient care as needed.

  • Participates and assures department involvement in ongoing Performance Improvement initiatives to support quality metrics such as core measures and patient satisfaction as required.

  • Develops evidence based standards of care, policies and procedures, etc. as needed for area of responsibility.

  • Ensures service excellence initiatives and achieves organizational goals for patient satisfaction.

  • Attends all meetings as required.

  • Conducts staff meetings monthly to update staff and/or address department issues and records meeting minutes for all staff.

  • Utilizes multiple methodologies to communicate information.

  • Adheres to safety standards for employees and patients.

  • Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.

  • Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the Division Administrator.

  • Integrates patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice

  • Adheres to the tenets of the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals

  • Delegates activities to staff according to the tenets of the NYS Nurse Practice Act

  • Adheres to the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics

  • Creates and maintains a culture of shared governance

  • Works with the Magnet program director to align initiative’s with the strategic plan and critical components of a Magnet Organization.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.


What you must have:

  • Current NY State License

  • BSN required 

  • BLS certification (through American Heart Association) required

  • ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) preferred unless required by employees in the department supervised then the certification is required

  • Certification in area of specialty, or CNML (Certified Nurse Manager & Leader) preferred, but must be obtained within 3 years of hire date.

  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of management skills

  • Previous management/leadership experience preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant acute care experience

  • Ability to function as a staff RN

  • Demonstrates excellence in clinical skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Salary/Rate Range: $130,000 - $169,000
