Overview: 
Our client in Winnipeg, MB is looking for a Data and Analytics ETL Developer for an initial 9-month contract with the option for renewals. This role is hybrid requiring 2-3 days onsite weekly so the successful candidate(s) must be currently residing in the Winnipeg area or be willing to relocate to the area for the duration of the contract.


Overview:
Our client is seeking a Senior Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) Developer to assist with an inflight Data and Analytics project focusing on Operational Data Store (ODS) and Data Warehouse. Our client has long depended on Ellucian's ODS for operational reporting, aligning with the vendor's primary intended use of the platform. However, over time, the client has significantly expanded its reliance on ODS beyond just reporting. The platform has evolved into a critical system integration hub and a backup resource for various other platforms. This project is consolidating and modernizing institutional data by integrating Finance, HR, Academic, and legacy systems into a centralized data warehouse, with a phased rollout across multiple iterations. It includes retiring the legacy ODS, migrating historical data to a Lakehouse architecture in Azure, and implementing new reporting capabilities such as Power BI portals and transcript services.
The Senior ETL Developer will work with the project team to design and develop Azure Data Factory components, including pipelines, activities, datasets, linked services, and Data Flows. The project team will include stakeholders and resources from multiple organizational functions.


What you will be doing:

• Designs Azure Synapse components using best practices.

• Develop and Maintenance of Azure Synapse components, including pipelines, SQL Pools, activities, datasets, linked services, and Data Flows.

• Provision, configure and optimization of Azure Synapse components

• Define and document the Azure Synapse components.

• Mentor other project resources regarding Azure Synapse knowledge, expertise, and best practices.

• Contribute to the review of Solution Architecture and Architecture Deliverables and recommend design options. 

• Assist in Azure Synapse issue investigation and Resolution.

• Provide input into Azure Monitoring and reporting.

• Provide expertise and assist in the design of the Data Warehouse Data model.

Deliverables

• The deliverables that the Senior ETL Developer will produce include but are not limited to:

• • Delivery of Azure Synapse components

  • Documentation of Azure Synapse components

  • Optimization of Azure Synapse components

• Input into Data Architecture and Data Warehouse design

What you must have:

• Experience working at a Canadian University would be an asset

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

• Experience with developing, maintaining, and optimizing ETL workflows

• Experience using and developing for a Data Warehouse.

• Experience working with Azure DevOps and Azure Synapse

• Experience working with MS SQL Database.

• Experience developing standard and supportable pipelines

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions

• Ability to provide subject matter expertise and recommendations based on best practice
