Overview:
Our client in Winnipeg, MB is looking for a Senior Systems Analyst for an initial 6-month contract with the option for renewals. This role is hybrid requiring 1-2 days onsite weekly so the successful candidate(s) must be currently residing in the Winnipeg area or be willing to relocate to the area for the duration of the contract.


What you will be doing:
Our client is seeking a Senior Systems Analyst with strong SQL expertise to join a Data and Analytics project focusing on ODS and Data Warehouse. This client has long depended on Ellucian's Operational Data Store (ODS) for operational reporting, and it serves as the primary reporting tool across various business areas. ODS is reaching the end of life and will no longer be supported in the short to medium term. Argos is used extensively across similar entities to generate operational reports connected to the ODS, prompting the need for a transition strategy to ensure reporting continuity. This initiative aims to analyze the code of the Argos reports that rely on the ODS, document the source code and support the development of new reports. The goal is to enable a smooth migration to alternative reporting platforms or data sources with minimal disruption to the organization’s operations. The Senior Systems Analyst will work with the project team to analyze source code and develop new reports. The project team will include stakeholders and resources from both functions.
Senior Systems Analyst Responsibilities

• Analyze reports and work with Business on purpose of each report

• Reverse engineer the SQL used to generate report and determine the data it requires

• Redesign SQL to point to other data sources (Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Banner)

• Create specifications with new SQL to re-build report to a developer (or team of developers)

• Unit test reports

• Coordinate testing reports with business

• Coordinate promoting reports to production environment

Deliverables
The deliverables that the selected Senior Systems Analyst Consultant will produce include but are not limited to:

• Documentation of source code including table structures

• Report analysis and migration specifications: reverse engineering, data sources, parameters and dependencies, and produce specifications for migration or redesign.

• Data validation and testing: confirm that report performance is acceptable and data outputs are accurate and approved by business

• Documentation and knowledge transfer: documentation about report logic, data flows, validation of migration results

• Developing reports

What you must have:

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a System / Data Analyst

• Minimum 10 years of experience with Oracle SQL

• Minimum 10 years of PL/SQL Developer application experience

• Minimum 10 years of experience working with Microsoft Cloud SQL Server

• Minimum 5 years of experience with T-SQL

• Minimum 5 years of experience with SQL Server

• Must have experience working with Microsoft Azure

• Must have experience developing with Power BI

• Experience working with Argos preferred

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required

• Experience working in a Higher Education environment is preferred

Prior experience in the following areas would be an additional asset for consideration:

• Experience working with a solution architect

• Experience with Prince2 or Agile Project Management methodologies
