As the Assistant Nurse Manager, you will be a cornerstone of clinical excellence and operational efficiency during the critical overnight hours. This role balances sophisticated administrative oversight—including budgeting, hiring, and strategic planning—with the ability to provide expert direct patient care when needed. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining a culture of shared governance and aligning departmental goals with the prestigious Magnet recognition standards. Key Duties:

  • Operational Leadership: Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with hospital strategic plans. Manage staff scheduling based on budgeted plans and patient needs.

  • Team Management: Conduct interviews, hiring, performance evaluations, and counseling in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Financial Stewardship: Assist in developing operating and capital budgets; update FTE components and report variances to the Division Administrator.

  • Clinical Oversight: Provide house supervision as required and periodically deliver direct patient care to support the team and maintain clinical excellence.

  • Quality & Safety: Drive Performance Improvement initiatives, ensure adherence to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, and uphold the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics.

  • Magnet Excellence: Collaborate with the Magnet Program Director to align unit initiatives with the critical components of a Magnet-recognized organization.

  • Compliance & Education: Assure staff completion of orientation, annual competencies, and ongoing education; maintain departmental compliance with all state and federal regulations.

  • Communication: Lead monthly staff meetings, utilize multiple communication methodologies to keep the night team informed, and foster a culture of shared governance.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure: Current New York State Registered Nurse License.

  • Education: BSN required (or matriculated in a BSN program with a confirmed graduation plan).

  • Certifications: * BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

    • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant acute care experience.

  • Clinical Skills: Excellence in clinical skills and the ability to function as a staff RN when necessary.

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership Experience: Previous management or leadership experience is highly preferred.

  • Specialty Certification: Certification in ICU/Critical Care or CNML (Certified Nurse Manager & Leader) preferred (must be obtained within 3 years of hire).

  • Management Knowledge: Demonstrated foundational knowledge of healthcare management skills and budgeting.
