Relief Veterinarian (DVM/VMD) — Small Animal General Practice
Southern Virginia, Blue Ridge foothills region
Full-time or part-time relief, ongoing. Multiple openings.

The Opportunity

A well-established, independently owned small animal general practice in southern Virginia is seeking relief coverage on an ongoing basis. This is not a one-off shift. The practice previously supported a five-doctor team and is currently running with a single veterinarian, which means there is real, sustained volume and room for more than one relief DVM to build a regular schedule here.

Coverage can be structured as full-time or part-time, weekly or on a set rotation, based on what works for you. For the right doctor, there is also flexibility to discuss a longer-term arrangement.

About the Practice

This is a community-rooted practice built on individualized care. Every patient gets a treatment plan tailored to them rather than a protocol applied across the board. The team is stable and experienced, with credentialed veterinary technicians supporting the doctor on the floor, so you are walking into support rather than starting from scratch.

Capabilities on Site

  • In-house bloodwork
  • Digital radiology
  • ECG and cardiology telemedicine consultation
  • Allergy testing and glaucoma screening
  • General surgery with advanced anesthetic monitoring
  • Dental ultrasonic scaling and polishing
  • Boarding and prescription diets

Schedule

Weekday practice hours, Monday through Wednesday with a full day, Thursday and Friday ending mid-afternoon. Closed weekends. No on-call, no emergency, no overnight.

What We Are Looking For

  • DVM or VMD with an active, unrestricted Virginia license, or eligibility to obtain one
  • Experience in small animal general practice
  • Comfortable working independently and integrating with an established support team
  • Strong client communication
  • Surgery experience is a plus, not required
  • Dentistry experience is a plus, not required
  • Large animal or mixed animal experience is welcome and would be put to use, but is not required

Why This One Is Worth a Look

Consistent, repeatable work with a practice that genuinely needs the help, a clean weekday schedule with no emergency duty, and a team that will be glad to see you. Because they are short-staffed at the doctor level, a relief DVM who fits well here can essentially write their own schedule.
