Overview:
Our client is a Canadian leader in the Construction sector seeking an experienced Project Controls Manager with heavy Industrial experience to be located in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a full-time permanent employee position. You must currently reside in and be eligible to work in Canada to qualify. If needed, relocation assistance may be provided.


What you will be doing:

Project Controls Systems & Tools

  • Define project controls guidelines and responsibilities within a business unit or Project Execution Plan

  • Implement systems and tools to manage and report on earned value management, cash flow, cost, revenue, forecasting, and scheduling

  • Provide strategic guidance to project controls and operations teams, ensuring timely and accurate project metrics aligned with corporate best practices

  • Collaborate with Estimating, Operations, and Finance to enhance project financial forecasting methodologies

Project Setup

  • Participate in project handover and kickoff meetings

  • Contribute to commercial, administrative, and reporting requirements during project initiation

  • Work with Estimating, Operations, and Finance teams to establish best practices and project requirements

Scheduling

  • Oversee scheduling processes to align with project standards and completion targets

  • Manage schedule progression throughout the project lifecycle

  • Supervise baseline schedule contributions and schedule updates

  • Oversee schedule analysis, forecasting, and change management activities

Progress & Cost Tracking

  • Conduct detailed reviews and analyses of project performance metrics

  • Ensure timely reporting of project progress, forecasting, and cost tracking

  • Review and approve project controls reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements

  • Oversee preparation and updates of project cash flows and financial forecasts

Scope & Change Management

  • Supervise project change management processes, including subcontractor claims, change requests, and dispute resolution

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks associated with project controls

  • Contribute to risk mitigation planning and commercial risk assessments

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in project controls

People Management

  • Foster a culture of respect and collaboration within the team

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop project controls personnel

  • Ensure adequate resourcing by liaising with senior leadership

Communication

  • Serve as a key partner to Estimators, Project Managers, Operations teams, and Senior Leadership

  • Engage with external clients, partners, vendors, and subcontractors as required


What you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or an equivalent field

  • 10–15 years of experience in the construction industry

  • Expertise in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and cost control

  • Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles

  • Ability to create, interpret, and adjust schedules and related reports (Note: "scheduling" is a lower-priority skill)

  • A natural leader with the ability to build strong relationships quickly

  • Proven track record of effectively leading project controls teams

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a clear and articulate approach to issue resolution

  • Ability to collaborate across all levels of an organization

  • Detail-oriented and customer-focused approach

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Familiarity with SAP and project controls software such as Primavera, Hard Dollar, Accubid

 

Salary/Rate Range: $120,000 - $130,000 plus bonuses
