Overview:
Our client’s Engineering team in the Lower Mainland has an opportunity for a talented Mechanical Engineer with Thermal Management Systems experience to develop and test equipment that will shape the mining industry for years to come. There are only a handful of companies pushing the limits of BEV mining technology, and their team plays a pivotal role in the research and development for our client’s next generation of equipment. Our client is looking for candidates with a good base skillset and attitude, as the  learning curve will be steep, and successful candidates will need to absorb information at a staggering rate. Your advancement will be limited only by your ability to learn, produce, and grow. You will join a very bright, industrious bunch who wear many hats and thrive on the challenge of transforming one of the largest industries in the world from diesel to battery electric.

What you will be doing:

  • Design thermal management systems including coolant loops, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, HVAC integration, and control strategies.

  • Develop system architectures for battery cooling, motor/inverter cooling, and cabin thermal systems.

  • Perform thermal analysis using CFD and 1D simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, GT-SUITE, AMESim).

  • Conduct system-level and component-level thermal modelling and performance prediction.

  • Define test procedures and validation plans for thermal systems.

  • Support prototype development and vehicle-level thermal testing.

  • Analyze test data and correlate it with simulation results to improve design accuracy.

  • Work closely with battery, powertrain, and vehicle integration teams.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams for component selection and validation.

  • Collaborate with control and software teams to implement thermal control strategies.

  • Support development of thermal control algorithms for different driving conditions and charging cycles.

What you must have:

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.

  • Knowledge of electric powertrain components and their thermal requirements.

  • Familiarity with automotive standards and validation procedures.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in battery thermal management and fast-charging thermal strategies.

  • Familiarity with EV regulatory compliance and safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, UN ECE R100).

  • Experience with thermal runaway prevention and mitigation techniques.

  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and thermal control algorithm development.

Salary/Rate Range: $110,000 - $130,000
