Overview
Our client is seeking experienced Mainframe Developers to provide hands-on development, enhancement, and support of their financial systems. Ideal candidates will be seasoned COBOL programmers with strong DB2 knowledge and experience across legacy mainframe tools. This is a technically deep role with long-term impact on production stability, code quality, and documentation.
What you will be doing:

Develop, maintain, and enhance software systems supporting core financial operations

Perform break/fix support, bug resolution, and system recovery troubleshooting

Execute batch processing tasks, reporting, and data extracts using tools like Easytrieve, SyncSort, and ICETOOL

Write and maintain technical documentation for system enhancements and break/fix resolutions
-
Perform quality assurance and code testing across development environments
-
Collaborate with internal teams to translate requirements into technical solutions

Monitor and optimize system performance and storage utilization
-
Lead or participate in mainframe system upgrades and COBOL version migrations

Provide input on DB2 z/OS schema changes related to ongoing and upcoming project work

Deliver knowledge transfer to internal staff related to system functions and implemented changes

Work within version control systems such as PanValet for code and release management
-
Leverage CA Scheduler for job scheduling and batch process execution

Maintain and manipulate VSAM data as part of production and project support
-
Utilize REXX for scripting and automation tasks within the mainframe environment
-
Support and update CICS-based applications and services
-
Develop and modify Easytrieve programs accessing DB2 and production data sets
-
Contribute to integration planning and system documentation efforts
What you must have:
-
Minimum 10 years of total experience , but only 3 years’ experience developing in Cobol to support financial systems in a mainframe environment

Strong COBOL programming background with experience in version upgrades

Hands-on knowledge of DB2, CICS z/OS, Easytrieve, REXX, and VSAM

Familiarity with Java development on the mainframe

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently in a part-time capacity
-
High level of adaptability and a proactive learning mindset
