Overview:
Our client is seeking a CMT Department Manager – Construction Services in Reno, NV to lead and oversee their Construction Materials Testing (CMT) department. This leadership role involves managing CMT projects, supervising technical staff, and ensuring that all work aligns with the highest engineering, quality, and safety standards. What you will be doing:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of field services engineering projects and laboratory operations.

  • Lead and mentor a team of CMT engineers, project managers, and technicians.

  • Ensure projects adhere to engineering best practices, safety standards, and quality control procedures.

  • Perform technical reviews of proposals, reports, and calculations.

  • Track department budgets, revenue, forecasts, and overall financial performance.

  • Set goals for the CMT/Field Services group and support professional growth through training initiatives.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on business development efforts through community involvement and client engagement.

  • Attend project meetings and provide on-site troubleshooting as needed.

  • Review daily field reports for technical accuracy and completeness.

  • Approve timesheets, expense reports, and prepare invoices.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, policies, and vehicle maintenance standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure within 3 months of hire.

  • 6+ years of engineering and/or construction experience, including vertical and horizontal construction projects.

  • Strong background in reviewing construction documents, overseeing field implementation, and managing materials testing programs.

  • Proven experience supervising teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management abilities.

  • Strong technical knowledge of testing procedures, ASTM standards, and soil classifications.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience developing scopes of services, cost estimates, and responding to RFPs.

  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to travel as required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position includes both office and field work with regular exposure to varying outdoor conditions. The candidate should be able to:

  • Lift and carry 35–75 lbs. for up to 75 feet.

  • Stand, walk, and operate equipment for extended periods.

  • Navigate uneven or rugged terrain, including wetlands, fields, and construction sites.

  • Work in environments with moderate to loud noise levels and exposure to environmental elements.

  • Use hands, arms, and full body mobility for inspection and testing tasks.

  • Communicate effectively in active construction environments.
