About the Role

 

The Outside Account Manager will act as the primary point of contact for customers within a defined territory (NorCal, WA, OR - candidate must reside here), responsible for managing existing accounts and developing new business opportunities. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven sales role ideal for someone with a strong understanding of laboratory operations and the ability to deliver technical product solutions.

 

The successful candidate will be a proactive communicator, comfortable with frequent travel, and adept at building trust with customers through responsiveness, product knowledge, and consistent follow-up.

 

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Achieve annual territory growth by expanding market share and exceeding prior-year sales results.

  • Manage and grow existing customer relationships while identifying and developing new accounts.

  • Conduct regular customer visits across the territory, supported by virtual engagement via phone, email, and video meetings.

  • Provide product demonstrations and support new lab startups.

  • Address customer inquiries related to orders, lead times, pricing, and technical specifications.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (Inside Sales, Customer Service, Technical Support, and Accounting) to ensure seamless service delivery.

  • Attend and present at industry trade shows, local events, and vendor tabletop sessions.

  • Track and follow up on quotations and maintain accurate records of sales activities and weekly visit reports.

  • Monitor customer credit status and assist in resolving account or billing concerns.

  • Identify emerging customer needs and recommend potential new products for consideration.

 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business-related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in technical sales, laboratory products, or scientific equipment.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory workflows and purchasing processes.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and relationship management skills.

  • Comfortable managing a schedule that includes extensive field travel.

  • Proficient with CRM tools, Microsoft Office, and virtual communication platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a full sales cycle and achieve consistent growth.
