Location: San Diego, California – Onsite/Some Hybrid

Overview: We are partnering with our client to locate a Lead SWIFT/iOS Software Engineer. In this full-time, direct hire, onsite (with some hybrid) permanent position for our extremely well-funded startup, this role will lead all software engineering as it grows.

What you will be doing:
This role is hands-on and high impact. You will define architecture, write production code, and take clear ownership of software decisions across the company. Initially this role will be a senior individual contributor role with technical leadership responsibilities, performing hands-on coding for native iOS in Swift with RESTful web services interfaces. The backend is MERN. Medical device experience is a plus.

This is not a traditional “people management” role, but you will matrix lead and mentor a firmware engineer and act as the technical authority for software. You will have fun and be part of a team making a difference for human health.

  • Own the architecture/technical direction for Swift/iOS device and web software interface
  • Design, build, and maintain native iOS applications in Swift
  • Design, build, and maintain web interfaces (GCP) and supporting services
  • Act as the primary owner for cross-functional software decisions
  • Mentor the firmware engineering function as it relates to integration (this is NOT a firmware development or hardware engineering position), but experience interfacing with firmware engineering is a huge plus.
  • Lead integration between software, firmware, and hardware systems
  • Establish and evolve software development standards and best practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Review code and ensure quality, security, and maintainability
What you should have:
  • Significant hands-on native iOS development experience using Swift
  • Solid experience developing an iOS/Swift-based app that interfaces to a remote device
  • MERN stack or comparable experience
  • Experience owning software architecture end to end
  • Experience working across web, mobile, and embedded or firmware-adjacent systems
  • Huge pluses:
    • GCP (AWS ok), Kubernetes, CI/CD pipeline
    • Medical device, ISO 13485/62304 standards experience
Work Environment: The onsite office is very relaxed, shorts/flip flops, with culture fit being a huge factor in hiring. People assimilate and work well together. There will be some hybrid opportunity once acclimated.

Salary/Rate Range: $175,000.00 - $200,000.00
Flexible and significant, plus a 15% annual bonus
