Job Title: Staff Software Engineer - Platform
Job ID: 86331
Location: Bend, Oregon / Remote

Vector Remote Care is a cardiac digital health company that provides remote patient monitoring software and services for cardiac device clinics nationwide. Our platform processes data from implantable cardiac devices—pacemakers, ICDs, ILRs, and heart failure monitoring systems—to deliver automated triage, clinician-ready reporting, and patient connectivity management at scale.

Our engineering team builds the systems that directly impact patient safety and clinical outcomes: cardiac alert prioritization, SmartReport generation for physician review and billing, EHR integration, and patient connectivity. We are an AI-forward engineering organization, leveraging AI-assisted development tools across our engineering workflows, and building the clean structured data foundations that enable increasingly intelligent clinical reporting.

Position Overview
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a hands-on, strategic technical leader who helps shape our engineering organization's direction, capabilities, and culture. You will work with cardiac device data pipelines spanning implantable device manufacturers, standards-based data acquisition (IDCO), EHR integrations, and clinical triage systems that directly impact patient safety. You operate at the intersection of deep technical expertise and organizational influence—driving architectural decisions that enable scale, building systems that reduce complexity, and elevating how teams across Vector work together.

This role requires you to think beyond individual features or even single teams. You’ll work across cardiac device data pipelines spanning implantable device manufacturers, standards-based data acquisition (IDCO), EHR integrations, and clinical triage systems that directly impact patient safety.  You’ll identify systemic opportunities for improvement, and design solutions that create lasting leverage. You’ll also help define how we responsibly and strategically integrate AI into both our product and our engineering practices. You’ll also partner closely with engineering leadership, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure our technical strategy aligns with business goals and the needs of the cardiac device clinics we
serve—RNs, technicians, electrophysiologists, and administrators who rely on our platform every day to manage patient care.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility, hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex technical, systemic, and organizational challenges, scaling engineering excellence, and shaping how teams deliver value at scale.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
? Lead architectural direction across domains and teams, making system-wide design decisions that enable us to scale the number of monitored patients by 2-3x—addressing throughput, data pipeline reliability, and long-term technical risk
? Drive the evolution of our data acquisition architecture, designing systems that normalize heterogeneous cardiac device data from Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, Biotronik, and other manufacturers
? Anticipate organizational and technical evolution and design systems that enable that evolution
? Guide teams through ambiguity, help set architectural standards, and be an exemplar of systems thinking across our technology infrastructure
? Shape the way teams think about quality by defining and evolving standards, identifying systemic patterns that reduce code health, and taking strategic action—recognizing that quality failures in this system can delay clinician review of cardiac alerts with direct patient safety implications
? Reduce the overall debugging burden by improving systems, structures, and diagnostic tooling that minimize time spent identifying and resolving problems across our clinical data processing pipelines and critical platform applications

Strategic Impact & Product Partnership
? Act as a strategic product partner, helping define product direction by synthesizing feedback across teams and ensuring technical decisions align with long-term goals and the needs of critical clinic workflows
? Influence organizational priorities with deep understanding of customer
needs—understanding how RNs, technicians, and electrophysiologists use our platform for transmission review, alert triage, and billing—ensuring decisions deliver exceptional user experiences
? Guide product stability and reliability as strategic initiatives, aligning system resilience with
the clinical trust our customers place in our platform for patient monitoring
? Help bring clarity to complex tradeoffs, translating business needs into actionable priorities and uncovering hidden dependencies

Organizational & Process Excellence
? Scale good engineering practices across teams—including testing, code quality, and operational excellence—by identifying gaps and driving cultural change
? Architect simplicity into systems, teams, and processes, building mental models  and shared expectations that help others work with clarity and economy
? Create conditions for high-performing delivery: clear priorities, unblocked paths, healthy rhythms, and visibility into progress

Leadership & Influence
? Model and drive an ownership culture through influence, designing systems that make accountability easier and more consistent across teams
? Model and scale healthy feedback culture beyond your immediate team, embedding feedback loops into systems and decision-making
? Make and communicate architectural decisions with clear reasoning that balances technical excellence, business pragmatism, and regulatory requirements

Collaboration & Communication
? Shape how teams collaborate at scale, creating conditions for healthy collaboration across groups, functions, and time zones in a fully remote engineering organization
? Act as a steward of organizational trust, anticipating relational friction and creating structures that help people relate across differences
? Lead and support incident response for production systems that process cardiac device data, improving diagnostic processes and shaping practices that reduce recurrence
? Articulate complex technical concepts and strategic vision to diverse audiences (engineers, product, executives, non-technical stakeholders)
? Build trust and productive relationships across organizational boundaries, including with clinical and customer-facing teams who depend on platform reliability
? Facilitate difficult conversations and driving alignment in high-stakes or contentious situations
? Strategic thinking skills that connect technical work to business outcomes and customer value

Qualifications
Technical Expertise
? 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years operating at a Staff or equivalent level
? Proven track record of architecting and scaling complex distributed systems in production environments serving significant user bases
? Deep expertise with full-stack SaaS architecture, including systems design, performance optimization, and reliability engineering
? Expert-level proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, SQL (MySQL), and NoSQL (DynamoDB)
? Extensive experience with AWS services and cloud infrastructure at scale

? Mastery of software architectural patterns and ability to teach them across teams
? Strong background in building comprehensive testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end) and improving testing culture
? Deep understanding of reliability practices: observability, incident management,
post-mortems, and proactive system health—particularly in environments where system downtime has direct patient impact
? Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development workflows and a thoughtful perspective on how AI changes engineering practices, quality assurance, and team norms
? Ability to evaluate AI tools and techniques critically—understanding where AI accelerates engineering and where it introduces risk—and to help the organization adopt AI responsibly
? Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Healthcare & Domain Experience
? Experience developing software in healthcare or other regulated environments with HIPAA compliance requirements (strongly preferred)
? Direct experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, or experience working with EHR integration middleware
? Understanding of cardiac device data ecosystems—implantable device manufacturers, remote monitoring workflows, or medical device data acquisition—is a significant plus
? Experience with data pipeline architectures that ingest, normalize, and process data from heterogeneous external sources
? Interest in the intersection of AI and clinical decision support — understanding both the potential and the regulatory/safety constraints of applying AI in healthcare contexts.

Additional Qualifications
? Experience in high-growth, fast-paced environments, particularly during periods of organizational scaling
? Customer-centric mindset with ability to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints
? Passion for building inclusive, collaborative engineering cultures where diverse perspectives strengthen outcomes

Benefits
? Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, innovative and growing company
? A position where you will have an immediate and direct impact on company success
? Competitive salary with opportunity for bonus/commission
? Paid Time Off - Three weeks vacation starting, two personal days and ten public holidays

? Health insurance, including: medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability,
basic life & AD&D, voluntary accident, voluntary critical illness, FSA, HSA & 401k with 3% employer match
? Participation in employee stock equity program
