What you will be doing:

Legal and risk review of construction contracts.

Review and negotiation of project agreements, design agreements, and subcontract and supply agreements in Bid-Build, Design-Build, EPC or Alliance frameworks.

Provide legal/commercial advice to project management teams and business unit leaders on a broad range of legal issues affecting the business, such as, legal and commercial risk transfer, tender law, legal entitlement to extra time and compensation, procurement, labour grievances, employment, etc.

Liaise between business unit leaders and external counsel on claims and litigation files.

Actively manage and give instructions to external counsel on claims and litigation files.

Identify key legal project risks, conduct contract training and assist with proposed solutions to project teams.

Prepare template suite of contracts for use by project teams (teaming agreements, subcontracts and services contracts, design services agreements, consortium agreements, joint venture and partnership agreements, alliance agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements).

Provide advice throughout the full life cycle of projects, including at bid, project execution and post-execution phases.

Coordinate with business unit leaders and project management teams on corporate approval policies and procedures, including project risk committee, commercial risk committee, Board of Directors approvals, etc.
What you must have:

Member in good standing with the Law Society in the jurisdiction of practice.

5-7 years of post-call legal experience.

Experience with some or all of contract law, construction law, labour and employment law, litigation management, Design-Build, Alliance and EPC project procurement in various construction sectors preferred.

Experience with conducting or managing construction disputes from the outset to conclusion, including through mediation, litigation, arbitration, adjudication, etc.

Construction and/or engineering industry experience, including with respect to contracts.

Verbal reasoning skills, ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, case decisions.

Knowledge of construction industry practices, including procurement methodology, risk profile norms, standard form contract provisions.

Ability to draft contracts, submissions, statements, correspondence etc.

Ability to identify risks presented by project contracts and propose practical solutions to
