Job Title: Staff React Engineer (Systems & UI Architecture)
Location: Vancouver, BC – 3 days a week onsite
Job ID: 87596
Overview:
As a Staff React Engineer, you are a high-impact technical leader whose influence extends beyond a single team. While a Senior Developer masters the implementation of complex features, you own the Frontend Technical Roadmap and the architectural standards for our entire suite of web applications.
You are a "bridge-builder" who connects UI/UX design vision with scalable distributed services. You will spend a significant portion of your time managing senior stakeholders and aligning frontend strategy with the wider department’s goals. This role is designed for a visionary who respects the craft of engineering and wants to solve deep-tier problems involving big data visualization, security, and high-scale performance.
What You’ll Do:
- UI Architecture & Standards: Define the long-term technical direction for our React ecosystem. You will lead the transition from "building components" to "building systems," ensuring consistency, accessibility, and performance across multiple global products.
- Strategic Stakeholder Management: Spend ~40% of your time collaborating with Engineering, Product, and Design leaders to solve resourcing challenges and align technical capabilities with business impact.
- System Synthesis: Partner with backend and data teams to ensure our frontend architecture supports highly scalable distributed services, complex data lifecycles, and microservices.
- Technical Mentorship & Culture: Act as the primary anchor for the frontend community. You will mentor Senior Developers, instill a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure secure coding practices are deeply embedded in the SDLC.
- Hands-on Leadership: Spend ~60% of your time in the trenches of design reviews, sprint planning, and high-level architectural artifacts—ensuring that the prioritized backlog maximizes delivery speed without sacrificing code health.
Tech Stack & Domain
- Core: React, JavaScript (ES6+ / TypeScript), CSS-in-JS.
- Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
- Backend Integration: Microservices, Resource-Oriented Architectures, RESTful APIs, Big Data technologies.
- Security: Enterprise-grade security protocols, OAuth, Content Security Policy (CSP).
What You Must Have:
- 12+ years of software development experience, with a proven track record of shipping enterprise-grade software.
- Architectural Mastery: Extensive experience building and managing the frontend of large-scale, distributed services and complex databases.
- Pragmatic Leadership: A history of finding technical solutions that balance ideal architecture with the realities of business deadlines and resource constraints.
- The "Multiplier" Effect: Experience leading and scaling frontend teams, driving professional development, and managing the technical growth of other high-level engineers.
Advanced Technical Skills:
- React Expert: Deep understanding of React internals, state management at scale (Redux, Recoil, or Context), and performance profiling.
- Data Lifecycle Management: Experience handling complex data quality and visualization issues within the browser, particularly when dealing with "Big Data" backends.
- DevOps & Security: Proficiency in containerization (Docker/K8s) and a "Security First" mindset—ensuring web applications are resilient against modern vulnerabilities.
- UI/UX Partnership: A sophisticated understanding of modern design frameworks and the ability to work hand-in-hand with UI/UX leads to translating high-fidelity designs into performant code.
The "Staff" Edge (Preferred):
- Experience driving "Build vs. Buy" decisions for internal component libraries or design systems.
- Proven ability to navigate organizational complexity to unblock teams and accelerate delivery.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of high-level industry experience.
