The Opportunity:
We are working with a global manufacturer of advanced analytical instrumentation in supporting them to hire a Senior Field Service Engineer to join thier North American team. The organization is recognized as a leader in elemental analysis technologies, supporting a wide range of industries including environmental testing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, and academic research.
The Senior Field Service Engineer will play a key role in supporting customers through installation, maintenance, and repair of complex analytical instruments. This individual will also contribute to the development of junior service engineers and serve as a technical resource across the organization. The role reports to Field Service leadership and requires a strong combination of technical expertise and customer-facing skills.
This position is based in Eastern Canada (ideally near a major metropolitan area with airport access) or requires relocation to such a region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of analytical instrumentation and associated systems.
- Deliver technical training to customers, internal support teams, and service personnel.
- Accurately document service activities, including repairs, maintenance work, and product performance issues; provide feedback for potential product improvements.
- Manage and maintain personal spare parts inventory in line with company procedures.
- Provide ongoing technical support to customers via phone, email, and occasional follow-up visits.
- Travel as required to support customers and internal teams.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of service reports and required documentation.
- Promote service agreements, maintenance contracts, and warranty extensions where appropriate.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior field service engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, or Geology; advanced degrees are an asset.
- 5+ years of experience working with analytical instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience with isotope ratio mass spectrometry, mass spectrometry, or comparable technologies is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members and collaborating with sales teams.
- Ability to create clear, detailed technical documentation.
- Valid driver’s license and passport, with willingness to travel as needed.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work remotely from a home office while providing technical support.
- Physical ability to handle equipment (lifting up to approximately 60 lbs).
