Overview:

Our client is a premier, fast-growing financial services and wealth management firm with over $15 billion in assets under administration. They are seeking a results-driven Manager, Commissions Accounting to join their Finance team at their Vancouver head office. This role offers end-to-end oversight of advisor compensation and serves as the primary line of defense for accuracy, inquiry resolution, and the continuous improvement of financial systems and controls.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Process Ownership: Lead the end-to-end commission lifecycle and act as the senior escalation point for all compensation-related inquiries across the firm.

  • Accuracy & Validation: Oversee the precise calculation, reconciliation, and distribution of commissions, managing both standard payouts and advisor-specific exceptions.

  • Discrepancy Resolution: Perform deep-dive investigations into discrepancies by tracing data across accounting records and commission platforms to ensure full resolution.

  • Compliance & Audit: Support external audits and regulatory filings by maintaining rigorous internal controls, detailed audit trails, and comprehensive working papers.

  • Financial Reporting: Partner with the broader Finance team on month-end closing procedures, variance analysis, and management reporting.

  • Workflow Optimization: Proactively identify opportunities to automate manual adjustments, streamline workflows, and enhance process documentation.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure all payouts align with regulatory requirements, fee schedules, and advisor agreements through inter-departmental coordination.

  • Onboarding Support: Manage the operational and compensation readiness for new advisors joining the organization.

     

What you must have:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in commissions accounting and advisor compensation within wealth management or financial services.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Financial Management or Accounting ; a CPA designation is considered a strong asset.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel ; experience with Sage Intacct or enterprise-level commission platforms is preferred.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of advisor compensation models and regulatory frameworks ; experience in a CIRO-regulated environment is an asset.

  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills with a proven ability to explain complex financial matters to non-finance stakeholders.

Salary Range: $100,000 – $115,000 per annum
