Job Title: Systems Design Engineer — Electro-Mechanical Product Development
Job ID: 87965
Location: Fraser Valley, British Columbia -  Onsite / Hybrid

Overview: Our client is an established Canadian manufacturer of specialized electro-mechanical products used in challenging industrial applications. They are looking for a Systems Design Engineer to join their engineering group in the Fraser Valley, BC.
This is a product development role for someone who can think across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical design, electronics, firmware, and software. The successful candidate will help turn complex product requirements into practical technical solutions by determining how different parts of the system should work together.

This is not an IT systems or systems administration role. The focus is on hands-on, product-level systems design for physical products that combine hardware, embedded technology, and mechanical components.

What you will be doing:
You will work with a multidisciplinary engineering team to help define, design, integrate, and verify complex product systems.

  • Analyze product-level engineering problems and help determine the best technical approach

  • Translate requirements into practical system-level designs and specifications

  • Work across mechanical, electronics, firmware, and software teams to align technical solutions

  • Decompose larger engineering problems into subsystem-level design requirements

  • Assess design options for feasibility, risk, reliability, performance, scalability, and manufacturability

  • Support system architecture, interface definition, and technical trade-off decisions

  • Participate in prototype development, integration, troubleshooting, and design validation

  • Help identify risks and mitigation strategies during product development

  • Support technical documentation, including system-level design documentation, analysis, risk reviews, and technical reports

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers where appropriate

What you must have:
The ideal candidate has strong product development experience and can think beyond a single engineering discipline. You do not need to be an expert in every technical area, but you should be able to understand how decisions in one area affect the full product system.

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering or product design experience

  • Experience with physical products involving electronics, firmware, software, and/or mechanical systems

  • Strong systems-level thinking and multidisciplinary design judgment

  • Deep expertise in at least one technical domain such as firmware, electronics, embedded systems, mechanical design, or mechatronics

  • Experience making technical trade-offs across multiple engineering disciplines

  • Ability to work closely with design, development, integration, and validation teams

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field

Nice to have:
The following would be considered assets:

  • Firmware or embedded systems experience

  • Electronics product development experience

  • Mechatronics or electro-mechanical design background

  • Battery-powered product experience

  • Motor control, sensors, control systems, or power management experience

  • Experience creating system-level design documentation

  • FMEA, risk analysis, verification, or validation experience

  • P.Eng. designation or willingness/eligibility to pursue registration

  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers

Salary/Rate Range: $120,000–$140,000, depending on experience.

Other Information:

  • Work Environment: This role is based in the Fraser Valley, BC and is primarily onsite to start. The work involves close collaboration with engineering team members, hands-on problem solving, design discussions, and product development activities. Some flexibility may be available once the successful candidate is established in the role.

  • Compensation and Benefits: The company also offers a competitive benefits package, profit-sharing/bonus opportunities, retirement savings support, and a collaborative engineering environment. Relocation assistance may be considered for the right candidate.
