Position Summary
The Clinical Documentation Medical Professional (CDMP) plays a critical role in improving the accuracy, completeness, and quality of inpatient medical record documentation. This professional partners closely with physicians, coding specialists, and healthcare teams to ensure appropriate clinical documentation that accurately reflects patient severity, quality of care, and reimbursement.
The ideal candidate brings strong clinical knowledge, CDI experience, and the ability to confidently communicate with physicians and healthcare teams regarding documentation opportunities and DRG optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform concurrent and retrospective reviews of inpatient medical records
- Identify opportunities for improved physician documentation and clarification
- Collaborate with physicians, coding professionals, and healthcare teams to ensure accurate MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignment
- Support accurate reimbursement and quality reporting initiatives
- Utilize clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and analytics to improve documentation integrity
- Serve as a CDI resource for education, problem-solving, and documentation best practices
- Build strong interdisciplinary relationships across clinical and coding departments
- Maintain current knowledge of CDI regulations, documentation standards, and reimbursement methodologies
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience required
- Proof of education required at time of submission:
- Foreign or Domestic Medical School Graduate (medical license not required), OR
- Graduate of an RN Program, OR
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program
- Strong understanding of:
- MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies
- Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS)
- Clinical documentation standards and compliance
- Excellent communication and physician collaboration skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
