Overview:
The Second Engineer is a member of the vessel’s engineering department, responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems on board. The Second Engineer oversees daily engine room operations, manages maintenance schedules, and ensures all equipment functions in accordance with company standards and maritime regulations.
What you will be doing:

Stand engine room watch, maintaining the propulsion, auxiliary, and safety equipment in accordance with the planned maintenance system.

Performs troubleshooting and repairs of all machinery and equipment related breakdown.

Plan and carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

Monitor spare parts and consumables, raise requisitions, and maintain proper stock levels for essential machinery components.

Support the Chief Engineer in communicating with the bridge, shore-based technical departments, and external contractors or surveyors.

Liaises with the Engineering Superintendent to facilitate repairs, contract visits, etc.

Conducts Deck Level Hazard Assessments (DLHA), along with the crew, to assess a speci?c work task prior to starting the work to determine if hazards are present.

Follows safe work practices and company’s Health, Safety, Wellness, Environmental and Quality Policies in line with the company’s core values.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance, fuel and oil consumption, and machinery performance in compliance with International Safety Management (ISM) Code and company policies.

Ensures efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment associated with safety and anti-pollution as de?ned by statutory regulations and company procedures.

Complies with all company policies and standard operating procedures.

Maintains records of all routine and unscheduled maintenance as per requirements.

Maintains standby plants and systems in a complete state of readiness to meet any emergency requirement.

Tests standby systems on a regular basis and as per company procedures.

What you must have:

A valid 4th Class Engineer ticket (minimum requirement).

MEDs, Marine Basic First Aid, and Marine Medical are required.

Minimum 5 years of experience as 2nd engineer onboard a similar vessel, including experience in charge of engineering duties on a vessel of 500 gross tons or larger is considered an asset.

Understanding of operation and use of all emergency equipment on board the vessel with emphasis being placed on location and use of fire fighting, live saving equipment, man overboard equipment, and safety apparatus.

Proficient in all vessel operational systems.

Knowledge of applicable Transport Canada and Classification Societies requirements.

Knowledge of marine terminologies and machinery parts.

Understanding of responsibilities under the CLC Part II and MOHS Regulations.

Team player and a creative problem solver.

Ability to make decisions under pressure.

Ability to communicate clearly and consistently.
Salary/Rate: $58.34 per hour
