Overview:
As the Master, you are accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. You hold complete authority and responsibility for the safety and security of the crew, equipment, cargo, and the environment. You will maintain full control during all operations and emergency situations, ensuring the highest standards of navigation, discipline, and regulatory compliance.


What you will be doing:

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee vessel operations in compliance with Canadian and International legislation, including the ISM Code and Company Safety Management System (SMS).

  • Command & Safety: Take charge during all incidents and emergencies, ensuring crew safety and reporting per established protocols.

  • Technical & Administrative: Maintain accurate records (logbooks, incident reports, customs, etc.), monitor machinery status in coordination with the Engineering team, and manage deck and galley inventories.

  • Team Development: Foster high standards of teamwork, evaluate crew performance, and ensure all personnel are properly trained and oriented.

  • Compliance: Conduct hazard assessments, manage Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation, and ensure adherence to collective agreements and company policies.


What you must have:

  • Certification: Master 3000 Domestic (or higher) for Escort tugs; Master 500 Domestic (or higher) for Harbour tugs.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as an officer in charge of the deck on an ASD 60+ Ton Bollard Pull Tug.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Canada Shipping Act (CSA), COLREGS, CLC Part II, and Maritime Occupational Health and Safety (MOHS) regulations.

  • Core Competencies: Ability to make critical decisions under pressure, excellent delegation and people management skills, and clear, consistent communication.

  • Requirement: Candidates must be willing to apply for union membership with the Canadian Merchant Service Guild (Western Branch).


Salary/Rate: $71.14/hour
