Overview:
Our government client in Winnipeg, MB is looking for a Cloud Administrator resource for a 24-month contract (an initial 6-month contract with an extension option of an additional 18 months) reference 29954-RFR-DTS-061. The position is preferred to be onsite in Winnipeg, MB but remote will be considered.


What you will be doing:
The Cloud Administrator is responsible for the administration, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise cloud environments, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure and Azure VMware Solution (AVS). The role ensures the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of cloud infrastructure services while aligning with organizational governance, security, and compliance requirements.
Cloud Infrastructure Operations

  • Administer and support Azure resources (VMs, networking, storage, identity, backup, monitoring)

  • Support Azure VMware Solution (AVS) environments and hybrid connectivity

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity; proactively address issues

  • Perform incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis

Security & Access Management

  • Implement and maintain Azure security controls (RBAC, Conditional Access, MFA)

  • Manage administrative roles and enforce least-privilege access models

  • Support vulnerability remediation and compliance activities

    • Administer Azure AD (Entra ID):

    • Users, groups, service principals

    •  Assist with privileged role governance

Support implementation of:

  • ?????Security baselines

  • Logging and audit configurations

• Assist with audit readiness and evidence collection
• Ensure consistency of controls across:

  • Azure native

  • AVS-connected environments

Automation & Configuration Management

  • Develop and maintain automation (PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM/Bicep/Terraform)

  • Standardize builds and configurations using enterprise templates (landing zones)

Subscription & Landing Zone Governance
Manage:

  • Subscriptions, resource groups

  • Management groups hierarchy

Apply and maintain:

  • Azure Policies

  • Naming standards, tagging compliance

  • Ensure workloads are deployed into the approved landing zones

Azure (Native Cloud Services)

  • Administer Azure-native services (IaaS/PaaS), including:

    • Virtual Machines, App Services (if applicable)o Storage, Backup, and DR

    • Networking (VNETs, NSGs, DNS, Azure Firewall, etc.)

  • Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and cost

  • Support cloud-native security controls and compliance

Cloud Infrastructure Operations

  • Administer and support Azure resources (VMs, networking, storage, identity, backup, monitoring)

  • Support Azure VMware Solution (AVS) environments and hybrid connectivity

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity; proactively address issues

  • Perform incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis

Integration & Support Model

  • Work closely with Managed Service Providers (MSP) delivering day-to-day IOps

  • Integrate cloud operations with enterprise ITSM processes (incident, change, problem)

  • Support migrations from on-prem to Azure/AVS (lift-and-shift workloads)

Governance & Documentation

  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

  • Ensure alignment with organizational standards, security policies, and audit requirements

  • Participate in change control and architectural governance processes


What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years infrastructure administration experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years hands-on Microsoft Azure experience

  • Experience with Azure Cloud Service Models (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS)

It is preferred that the Resource has the following qualifications or experience:

  • Experience with Azure VMware Solution (AVS)

  • Experience with cost optimization and cloud financial management

  • Experience with identity governance (PIM, Entra ID advanced features)

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills

  • Experience with cloud monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response

  • Experience working in regulated or public sector environment
