Senior Information Technology Project Manager

Position Summary

The Senior Information Technology Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing complex, enterprise-wide technology projects from initiation through successful implementation. Working under the direction of IT leadership, this role collaborates with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and executive leadership to define project requirements, establish priorities, manage resources, and deliver high-quality solutions that support organizational goals.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing multiple concurrent IT projects, developing comprehensive project plans, overseeing budgets and timelines, mitigating risks, and ensuring successful user adoption through training, documentation, and change management. This position also provides mentorship and guidance to junior project managers and project coordinators while ensuring adherence to Project Management Office (PMO) standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex, enterprise-level IT projects from planning through implementation and project closeout.

  • Follow established PMO methodologies, governance standards, and project management processes.

  • Define project scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, resource requirements, and deliverables.

  • Manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget expectations.

  • Mentor and provide oversight to Project Coordinators and junior Project Managers.

  • Analyze business requirements, vendor statements of work, and technical documentation to develop comprehensive project plans.

  • Coordinate project kickoff meetings and facilitate collaboration among executive leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, and external vendors.

  • Develop and maintain project documentation including:

    • Project Charters

    • Project Plans

    • Budget Trackers

    • RACI Matrices

    • Status Reports

    • Steering Committee presentations

    • Risk and Issue Logs

    • Change Management documentation

  • Establish project milestones, monitor critical paths, and provide regular executive status updates.

  • Identify project risks, dependencies, and issues while developing proactive mitigation strategies.

  • Ensure all project documentation complies with organizational standards and is audit-ready.

  • Facilitate planning and design sessions to define project scope, objectives, and solution requirements.

  • Coordinate system testing, implementation planning, and go-live activities.

  • Work closely with business users to ensure operational readiness and successful adoption of new technology solutions.

  • Support budgeting, scheduling, workload planning, and resource allocation activities.

  • Ensure all system changes are thoroughly tested prior to deployment.

  • Coordinate communication across project teams to maintain stakeholder engagement and alignment.

Training & Change Management

  • Partner with internal training teams and software vendors to develop implementation and training strategies.

  • Ensure appropriate technical, operational, and user documentation is created and maintained.

  • Translate business and technical requirements into user-friendly training materials.

  • Coordinate end-user training and validate user readiness before system implementation.

  • Ensure super-users and ongoing support resources are established for successful system adoption.

  • Support organizational change management initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Healthcare Informatics, Project Management, or a related field required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience managing Information Technology projects.

  • Proven experience leading multiple concurrent enterprise-level technology implementations.

  • Experience gathering business requirements and working directly with stakeholders.

  • Experience developing project budgets, timelines, resource plans, and executive reporting.

  • Experience working within a formal Project Management Office (PMO) environment.

  • Healthcare IT project implementation experience is highly preferred.

  • Experience with enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms such as Epic or MEDITECH is preferred.

  • Experience supporting large, multi-site healthcare organizations is preferred.

  • Clinical operations or healthcare background is a plus.

Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is strongly preferred.
