Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a long-term locum tenens opportunity with a premier healthcare network in Connecticut. This position supports inpatient surgical services across two regional facilities, providing crucial coverage for an established surgical team. This role is ideal for a skilled, local PA looking for a consistent schedule with a extended 6- to 12-month contract commitment.


What you will be doing:

• Provide comprehensive inpatient surgical care, including surgical first-assisting, pre-operative exams, rounding, and coordination of care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

• Diagnose and treat complex conditions, interpret diagnostic tests, and manage patient prescriptions.

• Perform essential bedside and surgical procedures, such as line placement (central venous and arterial lines) and endoscopic vessel retrieval.

• Operate with high clinical autonomy across two regional healthcare sites within approximately 35 miles of each other.

• Manage a standard inpatient caseload averaging around 10 patients per day.

What you must have:

• Board Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

• Minimum of 1 year of dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgery experience (not open to new graduates).

• Active Connecticut state PA license in hand.

• Active ACLS and BLS certifications.

• Local candidates preferred (commutable between regional sites; standard mileage reimbursement provided).

• Proficiency with modern inpatient electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.

Schedule & Setting

• Start Date: Mid-to-late summer (as soon as credentialed).

• Contract Duration: 6 to 12 months.

• Practice Setting: Inpatient surgical units across two regional acute care facilities.

• Shift Schedule: Standard 8-hour day shifts (Monday–Friday), with the potential for rotational call or extended shifts as needed.
