Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a long-term locum tenens opportunity with a premier healthcare network in Connecticut. This position supports inpatient surgical services across two regional facilities, providing crucial coverage for an established surgical team. This role is ideal for a skilled, local PA looking for a consistent schedule with a extended 6- to 12-month contract commitment.
What you will be doing:

Provide comprehensive inpatient surgical care, including surgical first-assisting, pre-operative exams, rounding, and coordination of care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Diagnose and treat complex conditions, interpret diagnostic tests, and manage patient prescriptions.

Perform essential bedside and surgical procedures, such as line placement (central venous and arterial lines) and endoscopic vessel retrieval.

Operate with high clinical autonomy across two regional healthcare sites within approximately 35 miles of each other.

Manage a standard inpatient caseload averaging around 10 patients per day.
What you must have:

Board Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

Minimum of 1 year of dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgery experience (not open to new graduates).

Active Connecticut state PA license in hand.

Active ACLS and BLS certifications.

Local candidates preferred (commutable between regional sites; standard mileage reimbursement provided).

Proficiency with modern inpatient electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.
Schedule & Setting

Start Date: Mid-to-late summer (as soon as credentialed).

Contract Duration: 6 to 12 months.

Practice Setting: Inpatient surgical units across two regional acute care facilities.

Shift Schedule: Standard 8-hour day shifts (Monday–Friday), with the potential for rotational call or extended shifts as needed.
