Overview: 
The Generation Stations Mechanical Engineering Balance of Plant team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer based out of the company’s Edmonds office in Burnaby. The team supports hydroelectric and thermal capital projects by designing auxiliary systems, completing condition assessments for asset management, and providing pre-release project scoping and operational support. Design work focuses on powerplant utility systems and industrial piping, including water, air, oil, gas, and fuel systems. Projects range from small single-discipline assignments to large, multi-discipline projects exceeding $100 million.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Demonstrate safety leadership in all aspects of engineering and project work.

  • Act as a design engineer, Professional of Record, and owner’s engineer, including reviewing and accepting external work on behalf of BC Hydro.

  • Plan and execute field investigations and site visits, including travel to and work at project sites as required.

  • Prepare design calculations, issued-for-construction drawings, specifications, engineering memos, and reports to support project delivery, decision-making, and funding approval.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines and groups, including heavy mechanical, power unit, fire protection, protection and controls, electrical, civil, estimating, procurement, operations, construction management, and project management, to develop project scope and engineering solutions.

  • Identify and lead improvements to engineering and construction work, work processes, and common company practices.

  • Develop cost-effective execution plans and solutions for design, construction, operation, and maintenance, including cost-saving initiatives in coordination with stakeholders.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to junior engineers, technologists, consultants, support staff, drafters, and 3D designers.

  • Understand and adhere to the company Standards, Processes and Guidelines

  • Manage mechanical engineering design projects and work packages of varying size and complexity.

  • Conduct design reviews of work completed by internal teams and external consultants to ensure the company design standards and specifications are met

 

What you must have:

  • University graduate in applied science or engineering 

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC 

  • BC Hydro uses a Digital Sign and Seal Tehhnology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius 

  • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards

  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software •

  • ntermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken


Salary/Rate Range: $51.00-$78.00 per hour


Term: 12-month contract; most likely to extend
