Technical Sales Lead – Partial Discharge Monitoring
Location: Melbourne or Adelaide, Australia
Salary: AUD $120,000–$140,000 base, depending on experience
Travel: Approximately one week per month interstate
Overview
Our client is seeking a Technical Sales Lead to grow its Partial Discharge Monitoring business across Australia.
This is a highly technical, customer-facing position combining approximately 70% technical sales and business development with product, application, and project support. The successful candidate will work with utilities, EPCs, OEMs, industrial customers, and channel partners to identify opportunities, develop monitoring solutions, and support customers throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
This role requires both technical credibility and commercial capability. Candidates must have direct professional experience with Partial Discharge Monitoring, an Electrical Engineering degree, and the ability to personally identify, develop, and close new business.
What You Will Be Doing
- Develop new business opportunities for Partial Discharge and electrical asset monitoring solutions across Australia.
- Build relationships with utilities, EPCs, OEMs, industrial customers, and channel partners.
- Identify customer requirements and recommend appropriate monitoring and diagnostic solutions.
- Manage opportunities from initial prospecting and technical discussions through proposal development and commercial close.
- Carry an individual sales and revenue target and actively contribute to regional business growth.
- Provide technical product and application support during the pre-sales process.
- Support projects through implementation, commissioning, and after-sales activities in collaboration with internal technical resources.
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key customer stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate sales pipeline, forecasting, CRM, and business-performance information.
- Monitor market activity, customer needs, competitive developments, and opportunities for growth.
- Coordinate with internal sales, applications, technical, and operations teams to support successful project delivery.
- Travel interstate for customer meetings, project support, and business-development activities.
What You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Direct professional experience with Partial Discharge Monitoring.
- Technical sales, business development, or comparable customer-facing commercial experience within the electrical power, high-voltage monitoring, condition-monitoring, or diagnostics industry.
- Demonstrated ability to generate new business and personally progress technical opportunities through to close.
- Experience discussing complex technical products and applications with engineering and other customer stakeholders.
- Understanding of electrical asset monitoring and diagnostic technologies.
- Experience working with sales targets, forecasting, pipeline management, and CRM systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with technical and commercial teams.
- Willingness to travel interstate for approximately one week per month.
Highly Desirable Experience
- Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) monitoring.
- Online electrical asset condition-monitoring systems.
- High-voltage asset diagnostics and monitoring.
- Experience selling to Australian utilities, EPCs, OEMs, or major industrial organizations.
- Experience with complex technical sales involving engineering evaluations, tenders, proposals, commissioning, and post-sale support.
- Experience establishing or growing a territory, product line, or market from an early-stage revenue base.
