Overview:
Locumly is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a locum tenens coverage opportunity in Indiana. This role involves both inpatient care and surgical first-assisting, supporting an established cardiovascular program across multiple block dates. It is an ideal assignment for a local advanced practice provider seeking a regular routine that blends hospital rounding with surgical procedures.

What you will be doing:

• Perform morning hospital rounding, patient assessments, daily progress notes, and care management prior to surgical cases.

• Serve as surgical first assist in cardiothoracic procedures, including vein and artery harvesting using the Maquet system.

• Manage pre-operative physical exams, inpatient/outpatient consultations, discharge summaries, and post-operative care plans.

• Perform bedside procedures such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, and wound care management.

• Collaborate closely with cardiovascular surgeons, nursing, respiratory care, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

What you must have:

• Board Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner.

• Active Indiana state license in hand at time of submission.

• Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Maquet vein harvesting required.

• Active ACLS and BLS certifications.

• Local candidates within driving distance preferred.

Other Information:
Schedule & Setting

• Practice Setting: Inpatient hospital surgical service and post-operative care units.

• Shift Structure: Monday through Friday daytime shifts (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM) paired with weeknight call (4:00 PM – 7:00 AM). Weekend coverage requires 24-hour call.

• Coverage Periods:

  • Mid-September through mid-October

  • Late October through early November

  • Mid-November through early December
