Overview: 
The Instructional Designer - Level 1 assesses training needs; develops programs and curricula designs and develops instructional materials, packages, evaluation tools; manages, monitors and evaluates instructional design projects and curricula applications. Writes technical training materials, work process, procedure documents, and manuals. 

 

What you will be doing:

  • Develops competency profile charts, course/program profiles or outlines, curricula, training modules, and other complex training materials from information gathered from clients through a formal needs assessment process. Provides formal needs assessment services for the organization.

  • Designs and creates instructional training modules and materials by: determining specific learning tasks, sub tasks and content; writing and sequencing performance objectives and developing performance measures following adult education principles; and integrating delivery techniques to enhance in-person instructor-led and virtual instructor-led and other instructional delivery methods.

  • Applies current adult education concepts and learning approaches such as: experiential teaching techniques, accelerated learning principles, interactive delivery methods to curriculum projects and materials.

  • Develops and establishes standardized curricula format and templates for course material and facilitators guide. Provides expertise in adapting current curricula to alternative delivery channels such as web-based training, virtual instructor-led, etc.

  • Identifies opportunities to integrate emerging trends in instructional design to curricula and learning methods and techniques.

  • Prepares, maintains and updates training and instructional website.

  • Designs and develops instructional materials and technical documentation for large complex systems.

  • Liaises and works with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to: identify objectives, gather material, structure effective lessons and develop assessment tools appropriate for technical and trade audiences; writes, revises and edits training, work process and procedure documents from information provided by SMEs. Analyzes material for: logic, completeness, focus, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Consults with SMEs and Technical Trades Trainers to ensure accuracy and relevance of content to training; works with and facilities design teams and ensures timely development of training modules

  • Provides technical guidance to Instructional Designer 1 on the application of adult learning principles to optimize course design development and maintenance of instructional materials, production of instructional videos and digital assets.

  • Performs some or all the duties of the Instructional Designer 1 job.

  • Performs minor duties related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

 
What you must have:

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) model as it relates to curriculum development.

  • Good knowledge of evaluation and assessment methodologies.

  • Ability to develop and design competency profile charts, course outlines and profiles, training modules, curricula, and other training materials.

  • Ability to use course outlines and learning objectives to develop complex instructional materials and technical documentation.

  • Ability to prepare performance objectives and performance measures.

  • Ability to apply and integrate adult education concepts and learning approaches to curricula.

  • Ability to develop and establish standardized curricula format and templates.

  • Ability to provide expertise on alternative delivery channels.

  • Ability to write and develop complex instructional materials, technical documents and understandable/user friendly manuals.

  • Physical ability to carry out job duties.

 

 Salary/Rate Range: $29.00-$36.00 per hour

Term: 6-month contract; most likely to extend
