Job Title: Relief Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Job ID: 89001
Location: Oak Lawn Indiana

Overview:
A well-established small animal primary care practice in the southwest suburbs of Chicago is seeking a relief veterinarian to provide daytime coverage beginning in August and September, with strong potential to extend into October, November, and beyond for the right fit. This is a temporary relief role supporting the practice's regular appointment schedule, and it is well suited to a DVM looking for consistent, ongoing relief work in the Chicagoland area. The practice operates Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with ten-hour shifts (the practice is closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Coverage need is 2 to 3 days per week or more, with room to take on additional days for a DVM seeking a fuller schedule. Specific relief days are flexible and can be arranged to fit both the practice's needs and your availability. There is no overnight, emergency, or on-call component to this role.

What you will be doing:
Clinical Scope

  • Wellness and preventive care exams for dogs and cats

  • Sick patient exams and workups

  • Vaccinations and parasite prevention (flea and tick)

  • Spay, neuter, and routine soft tissue surgery

  • In-house diagnostics: blood, urine, and fecal testing

  • Treatment planning and client communication

What you must have:

  • Active Illinois veterinary license (DVM/VMD) in good standing

  • Active DEA registration

  • Confidence with routine small animal primary care and standard surgical procedures

  • Strong client communication skills and a collaborative approach with support staff

  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently within an established practice

Other Information:
What Is Offered

  • Competitive relief rate for the Chicago market, commensurate with experience

  • Experienced, supportive technical and front-office staff

  • Flexible scheduling with the potential for ongoing, recurring relief work beyond the initial window

  • A steady daytime caseload with no overnight or emergency on-call

Other Information:

  • Coverage Window: August and September 2026, with the potential to extend into October, November, and beyond

  • Type: Temporary relief / locum coverage
