Overview:
Our client is seeking a Senior Estimator for their Edmonton office. This is a full time office based position reporting to the Estimating Manager. You'll be a key member of both the Estimating and Project teams, providing vital estimating services that directly support Project Development, Operations, and Estimating departments. From conceptual sketches to final bids, you'll coordinate full estimating services across a variety of projects and contract types, making your mark on everything from construction management and design-build to lump sum and IPD. Your expertise will be essential in the tender process, including reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotes and making award recommendations.


What you will be doing:

  • Solicitation, review and levelling of subcontracting and material supply quotes.

  • Maintain Sub-Contractors/Supplier relations.

  • Maintain unit price and productivity knowledge and database.

  • Prepare accurate and complete estimates including quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and sub-contractor and supplier pricing.

  • Take part in Client meetings.

  • Take part in project interviews if necessary.

  • Confer with Engineers, Architects and Owners on changes and adjustments to cost estimates and assist in the preparation of studies, materials methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.

  • Preparation of proposals and estimates for the Managers final approval prior to their presentation to potential Clients. Ensure they are submitted before the bid deadline.

  • Prepare risk mitigation plans and effectively manage risks that might impact estimates.

  • Take part in Project Team meetings.

  • Maintain Career Progression plan.

  • Attend training courses as required.

  • Ability to perform basic internet and Intranet functions.

  • Assist in training for Estimating team.

  • Maintain and upgrade estimating software as required.

  • Mentor junior staff.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.


What you must have:

  • A Post-Secondary Certificate/Degree in Engineering or the equivalent of a designated Professional Engineer or a Technical School graduate in a Construction related discipline.

  • Operations experience in the role of Project Coordinator or Project Manager is an asset.

  • Extensive (10+ years) experience as an estimator in the general construction field.

  • Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus the ability to coordinate and supervise group work efforts is essential.

  • Experience with coaching teams and collaborative planning.

 

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple workflows and tasks concurrently.

  • Ability to manage deadlines for completion of assigned tasks.

  • Comfortable working in a team environment.

  • Ability to lead in a team environment.

  • Adapt to changing job requirements and direction from multiple sources.

  • Ability to navigate software packages, including Word, Excel, OST, Microsoft Scheduler, Bluebeam etc. Expert knowledge of Estimating software (InEight) is an asset.

  • Knowledge of scheduling logistics and ability to build accurate schedules.

  • Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs both manually and electronically.

  • Communicate professionally through verbal and written methods.

  • Identify building materials and possible alternatives for cost reduction.

  • Develop Sub-Contractor work scopes for tendering.

  • Identify bonding and insurance requirements.

  • Take part in tender closings.

  • Understand Client requirements and incorporate requirements as may be necessary.

  • Ability to chair and control meetings.

  • Ability to visualize end products without drawings.

  • Ability to schematically design project from client’s requirements.

  • Able to derive alternate designs for cost or time savings.

  • Ability to analyze risk associated to project.

  • Exposure to and understanding of lean construction principles.

  • Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus the ability to coordinate and supervise group work efforts is essential.


Salary/Rate Range: $120,000 - $150,000
