Registered Nurse (RN) 
Schedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (24 hours per week)

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and clinically skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional healthcare setting. The RN is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care through assessment, triage, treatment, emergency response, chronic care management, and coordination of healthcare services. This role requires strong critical thinking, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to provide compassionate care in a secure environment while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily nursing sick call clinics, assess patients, and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Collect, review, prioritize, and respond to Health Service Requests (HSRs) submitted by incarcerated patients.
  • Perform nursing triage to determine the urgency of medical concerns and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
  • Coordinate daily patient schedules for nursing evaluations, provider appointments, and follow-up care.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies throughout the facility and provide emergency nursing care within scope of practice.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Carry out provider orders, administer medications, and monitor patient responses to treatment.
  • Provide RN follow-up appointments and monitor patients referred by medical providers.
  • Serve as the primary nurse clinician for patients housed in both general population and restricted housing units.
  • Deliver long-term nursing care for patients requiring observation or treatment while housed in Health Services Unit (HSU) infirmary/sick cells.
  • Provide nursing care for patients recovering from illness, injury, or post-operative procedures.
  • Monitor chronic and acute medical conditions and identify changes requiring intervention.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, disease management, and health promotion.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, mental health professionals, correctional staff, and other healthcare personnel to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols, safety procedures, and correctional security policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with all applicable nursing standards.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Previous correctional nursing, emergency, medical-surgical, critical care, or long-term care experience preferred.
  • Strong assessment, triage, emergency response, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.

  • Strong clinical assessment and patient triage abilities.
  • Experience managing both acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in emergency response and crisis management.
  • Knowledge of nursing standards, infection control, medication administration, and patient safety practices.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound clinical judgment within a secure correctional setting.
