Overview:
Our client is seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Team Leader to provide daily supervision, technical guidance, and operational support to a unit of 10 or more claims examiners and support staff. Working alongside the WC Claims Supervisor and Area Manager, you will guide staff development, oversee workflow and claims quality, and serve as a technical resource for clients and internal partners. This position does not carry a personal caseload.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide daily work direction, technical guidance, and operational support to assigned claims personnel.

  • Monitor claim inventories, work assignments, diary compliance, and timely completion of required activities.

  • Coach and mentor staff, identify training needs, and support consistent claims handling.

  • Conduct independent file reviews to assess reserve accuracy, documentation, compliance, and progress against action plans.

  • Ensure adherence to company Best Practices, Customized Handling Instructions, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Interpret policies, endorsements, coverage provisions, and relevant laws to guide claims decisions.

  • Review and approve authority requests within delegated limits and direct examiners to obtain additional authority when needed.

  • Provide guidance on complex claims, litigation, negotiations, and settlements.

  • Work with Unit Management, Client Services, and clients on technical questions and claims resolution strategies.

  • Communicate significant claim developments, exposure changes, coverage concerns, and operational risks to the appropriate stakeholders.

  • Partner with the Claims Supervisor on performance concerns, staff development, and work quality.


What you must have:

  • Five to seven years of workers' compensation experience preferred, with at least three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, or supervising claims personnel.

  • Strong technical knowledge of workers' compensation claims, coverage, statutory requirements, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to evaluate complex claims, assess exposure, and provide clear, actionable guidance.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage team priorities and work effectively with clients, counsel, vendors, and internal leadership.


Nice to have:

  • Experience supporting cities, counties, municipalities, or other public-sector accounts.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.


Salary/Rate Range: $90,000 to $100,000
