Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Claims Manager to lead the operations of a workers' compensation claims unit. Reporting to the Area Manager and working under minimal supervision, you will oversee Claims Supervisors, Claims Examiners, and Claims Assistants. This role combines operational leadership, technical oversight, staff development, financial controls, and client relationship management to ensure consistent claims quality and service.
What you will be doing:

Supervise and develop assigned staff, evaluate performance, provide coaching, and address disciplinary matters in partnership with Human Resources.

Monitor claim inventories, workloads, and staffing levels to meet operational and client-service requirements.

Oversee initial and periodic claim reviews, delays, denials, and other time-sensitive decisions.

Review and approve reserve changes, awards, and payments within delegated authority, obtaining additional approval when needed.

Conduct claim-file reviews to assess handling quality, documentation, reserve adequacy, and compliance.

Ensure adherence to applicable laws, company Best Practices, and client-specific handling instructions.

Oversee daily check runs and payment registers in accordance with established financial controls.

Lead and document staff training and educational sessions on laws, policies, procedures, and claims practices.

Coordinate claims coverage during examiner absences and vacancies.

Resolve escalated claimant and vendor concerns and monitor vendor performance.

Prepare and review monthly client reports for accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.

Facilitate internal and external audits and oversee corrective actions.

Participate in client file reviews and provide account management for accounts without an assigned Account Manager.

Partner with corporate and sales/service teams on RFPs and service-related matters.

Monitor branch expenses and approve invoices within delegated authority.
What you must have:
-
Five to ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong technical knowledge of workers' compensation claims handling, applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and medical terminology.

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop employees with varying experience and skill levels.

Strong analytical skills and sound judgment in complex claims and operational decisions.

Ability to balance staffing, workloads, quality standards, and client-service priorities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong customer service skills and experience resolving escalated concerns professionally.

Ability to manage diary systems, prioritize competing responsibilities, and meet strict deadlines.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

High school diploma or GED required.

Salary/Rate: $95,000
