Overview:
Responsible for the preparation of the monthly and annual Canadian and consolidated income tax provisions, note disclosure and uncertain tax positions, with minimal supervision. Identify, develop and recommend internal controls designed to strengthen the overall control environment and accelerate the timely and accurate financial reporting of income taxes. The Manager, Tax – Canada will be responsible for managing the Canadian tax function, which includes tax compliance and tax reporting for the company’s Canadian operations. This role requires strong knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams and departments.
What you will be doing:
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax liabilities and tax-related disclosures using the Effective Tax Rate Method for intra period reporting and the preparation of annual Canadian income tax provisions, consolidation of income tax provisions, note disclosure and uncertain tax positions.
- Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate reflection of tax impacts in financial statements.
- Manage and improve the tax reporting process, identifying areas for continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Oversee and manage all aspects of tax compliance, including the preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns and other relevant filings.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax returns and maintain compliance with all tax laws.

- Manage tax audits and liaise with Canadian tax authorities as needed.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise senior management on potential impacts.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate tax risks.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and other departments to align on tax planning, compliance, and reporting.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures by assessing the tax implications and structuring considerations.
- Work with international tax teams to ensure alignment on global tax strategy and compliance.
- Provide training and support to finance team members on new tax laws and compliance best practices.
- Promote a high standard of ethics and integrity within the finance group.
- Support the development and implementation of effective tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position within Canadian regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the team to assess the tax impact of business strategies and decisions.
What you must have:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA or equivalent tax certification is required, Completion of the In-Depth Tax Course or Master’s degree in Taxation.
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in tax, with a focus on Canadian corporate tax in a large corporation or accounting firm.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax regulations, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, and other relevant taxes.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in tax software, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools.
